Summer Video Schedule

Hey Everyone!

I'm sorry this month's videos are slightly late-- I did two at once, and a surprise review I got to do fro Polygon ate into my time. Expect them within the next two days, though. They'll be:

1) Prey vs. Prey, looking at Human Head's 2006 story-driven shooter and Arkane's 2017 immersive sim.

2) Outlast 1 & 2: Gamifying Found Footage Horror, doing a maybe too-long deep dive into the Outlast games and why putting the player in control of a movie-making process is such a resonant experience.

The thing is, I could've had Outlast out way earlier but it seemed to me like a game series not a lot of people would care about me covering, while Prey is more in the wheelhouse of things I know you guys liked. So I wanted to release Prey vs. Prey *first*, but depending on that order ended up delaying them both.

I did the same thing with the Homefront DLC video-- it seemed too slight to release not paired with the Mass Effect video.

Is that how folks would prefer it? Double releases where if you're unhappy with one, the other works for you or do you want me to release more frequently even if some of them you don't care about at all?

Which brings me to the summer-- I'm trying to do four videos in four styles this summer, a long travel video, a shorter one, a game video that's somewhat personal and autobiograpical, and a regular old game critique. I was thinking about saving up all four and releasing them at once so that less people are upset with the ones they dislike.

Anyway, two new videos within the next couple days (genuinely, actually, the scripts are done and they're both around an hour). Then a bunch over the summer, and a video update once I have more done.

Thanks so much for everyone's generosity and patience, I'm sorry to have had somewhat slow video output from the road, I'm hoping to have this rebalanced soon.

You're the Wayne Gretzky of video essays, I mean it bro. For real no other YT channel can consistently keep me interested for an hour plus. Thank you for doing video games the favor of actually critiquing them as thoroughly and analytically as people do films, books and music. So many game 'reviews' are just advertisements, you're doing a true public service. Love the travel stuff too, you're a worthy successor to the travel writers or yore. A hell of a lot more interesting than Kerouac. Keep at it, you're an excellent writer.

I definitely prefer regular one-off videos to bunched-up sets. Your videos tend to give a lot to think about, and of course I can't help myself and pace my consumption on my own, so what seems to happen (or at least happened with these ones) is that I watch them back to back, and honestly get less out of them than I would if there was more time separating them.

Way to give 110% keep at it

Illuminati Games

Polygon?

Diego Reyes

Brilliant :D

Kyan Zero The Real

I was just watching your Desert Bus video and was wondering: would you consider making your content available in printed form (by which I mean readable form, could be online of course). The video format is fine, but sometimes I feel the style and depth of your prose would warrant reading rather than listening. Anyway, best wishes and keep up the good work!

Hey Noah,

Andre Bregegere

I loved the Outlast video, it gave me insight into a series i most likely will not play. Hope your trip has been going well and I'm excited to watch your new travel video tonight!

Thunder O'Brien

Hey Noah, just watched the Outlast video and really liked your take! I had a suggestion for a game that you could examine, (it's in no way a compulsion), which is Torment: Tides of Numenera! An interesting angle might be as a comparison to the original Planescape: Torment. In any case, can't wait for more videos, and hope you're doing good!

Sai

I definitely like all your videos, but if you have stats that show you lose your audience with certain videos... You must do what you feel is right!

I prefer a release when done, not only does it better space the content, it allows better interactivity where you can accommodate feedback into future videos.

Noah! Hi! Whatever order you find best, I'll be more than ok with. Just glad to hear you're doing well. Greetings from Argentina!

Sebastian Pieroni

Just wanted to come in and say I think you're doing a fantastic job. Don't worry yourself too much with the releases, I've never felt underwhelmed by one of your videos. Take your time and take it easy :)

Alejandro Verdugo

Noah, I'm just glad to hear that you're doing well, still working, and I hope you're enjoying your time on the road too! Speaking for myself, I enjoy all your videos, and I'm looking forward to both of the new ones you described (Outlast and Prey). A more staggered release schedule might be a little better, only because it helps when I need a long-form critique fix. But, if you release them closer together I'll certainly still watch them!

Rich Stoehr

I'd personally prefer more staggered releases as your videos are rather long and it's kind of hard to watch a bunch of hour+ videos when they're all released at the same time. Plus that way you aren't holding onto finished videos and rushing unfinished one to release them all at the same time.

I've watched every video of yours even when the subject matter was a game I never intended on playing. The way in which you speak about games is what intrigues me, and the more frequently I can get that the better. I don't mind you covering topical games, though: that's certainly a key to growing a successful YouTube channel, and I want you to be successful.

Christian Michaels

Gona have to agree with everyone. Your videos are dense. I like having time to wait and process them before the next one. I usually watch your videos as soon as they are out, but if there were 4 at once id be overwhelmed. I get excited when a new video pops up. 4 at once would dilute the experience a bit if you get me. Anyway, love your work, keep them coming however you see fit, I will still the watch them. Bob

Brian O'Byrne

I'd also prefer they release as soon as they're done. I have a hard time finding the hour or so to watch one of them, and seeing my watch later list grow and grow becomes depressing after a while. Also you have yet to release a video I consider a waste of my time (the car maintenance one came close, since I don't own a car. ;-) ).

Martin Karsten

Always glad to see videos from you, but I would definitely prefer them as they come. It will give each video its own space to breath and settle in our thoughts, whether it is something we care for or not. I never cared about Half Life mods, but parts of your video on them come to mind from time to time because it had its own distinct place to settle. If you release two long videos back to back, they may become indistinct from one another, and people may choose to ignore whichever they care less about. Maybe not. Just my thoughts at the moment. Thanks for being great!

Divayth Faust

Personally I'd prefer it if you released them when they were done.

Mythopoeia

that's just me but I'd prefer to have one video at a time, I like to hear your opinion on things no matter what, and having just one video available lets me concentrate on it with my attention undivided. having two or more videos at once tends to be overwhelming and as a matter of fact I still have to finish your last two videos! but of course it's a non-problem in the end (even if maybe with one video at a time you can be more regular?). just my two cents and of course you choose according to what suits you and your audience best!
