the best season

Zach Barber

Every. Damn. Season. Let's. Go. 👏 👏 👏 👏 👏

Kim Jong Rasputin

i hope you know that by the end of this, the wire will be your favorite show of all time. i hope you’re ready for that

Leric

S2 grew on me. I was really angry the first couple of times I watched it, but now it's my second favorite season.

I am curious what James' reaction to the original version of Way Down in the Hole will be.

Yours truly, Johnny Dollar

McNulty is chaotic good

MrBooShoes

Not to mention that Tupac spent his teenage years in Baltimore (although northside, not near the neighborhoods central to the show).

Tom McDonald

Yeah, I loved season 2 but it definitely takes a sharp turn from season 1, and spends the most time with the crew broken up and doing their own thing, more than any other season (I think). Personally I LOVED Ziggy (we all know one) and not to mention we get introduction to Brother M and Cheese.

Jesse Trovato

When you begin season 2, just remember this... All the pieces matter.

Kana Kawase

He's out of The Wire, how about The Office?

Kana Kawase

Season 2 is a classic so looking forward to it.

Justin Broadbent

Season two is one of my all time favorite seasons of TV. It’s my second favorite season of the Wire, behind 4. Can’t wait to see what you think of it!

TES

Truth. Most people don't think so, but season 2 might be my favorite.

Brandon

I am so glad you like the show. I gotta mention it again, but Tupac covered a lot of the same issues this show goes over. That's why I got so emotional seeing Tupac's poster behind Wallace in that scene a few eps ago. Pac preached on the same issues, while being a smart young man with so much to do and say, and yet was taken from us too soon, due to the game. Also, Masta Ace's Song ''Unfriendly Game'' was featured a few eps ago, and that song has some real good lyrics that go with the show. As for the show, there are so many amazing details that you can go back to and notice on multiple viewings. I have seen it like 5 times or so, and every time I pick up something new. It's such a layered and well thought out show. And I love tha fanbase too. Anywhere there is wire discussion, people go into deep dive essays about the show. So fun to read.

“Shit, for more of these James vs Cinema Wire reactions? I’ll go a few more!”

William Davis

I always think “should I comment on this.” And then you never fail to say things that hint at the series as a whole, not just that specific moment. You talk of universes…while McNulty is the closest thing the a main character, the main character is Baltimore, and the Plot is the War on Drugs. What this series does so well (aside from break free of the crime, clue, arrest formula of cop dramas) is never look at things in a vacuum. It’s shown you the streets but now it will look at “why aren’t the politicians doing anything” “why don’t the media/public care” “where the drugs coming from” (don’t see many poppy fields in Baltimore last I checked) “with all this death, violence, and arrests, where does the next generation come from to perpetuate it all”…I’m so hyped to dive back into this universe because season 1 is just getting started. Also it’s Stringer :)

Jesse Trovato

It’s interesting that you compare this show to an open-world video game, I would love to see a game like that based on the world of this show, (as well as Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul) but I feel like it might get boring because so much of the conflict in this show is in dialogue, not action.

William Davis

I can’t wait for season 2. When it dropped it was not the most loved but with time it’s turned into a classic

Young Simba

That's fair enough. While they are all connected, each season has a significantly different focus, and it might have been jarring to start season 2 immediately after the finale. Thank you for the great reactions! Looking forward to more.

James
