The Wire EP 7 & 8 Early Uncut Access

The Wire is finally coming to the scene and I'm excited to get into this narrative. I'm genuinely already immersed within this world and it's characters and can't wait for the journey that's about to unfold. The writing, filmmaking, compositions etc, all remind me of what makes a GREAT show stand out from just a good one. Let's get it!

Hahaha for sure!! I’ll be doing some chill discussions when I’m out in nature doing photography. I think it would be great dialogue!

James Adams

is this on break or?

I just wanted to mention that there are a couple of musicians in episode 7. Bird is played by Fredro Starr of the 90s hip-hop group, Onyx. Their song "Slam" is a banger. Also, Waylon, the bearded dude who spoke at the Narcotics Anonymous meeting, is country-rock singer, Steve Earle. He's a friend of David Simon's and he also sings the theme song for season 5 of The Wire.

Also, yeah. Anyone with a Disco Elysium pfp will have their head explode once the word "capitalism" is muttered. Excuse me, I think my bias is showing

Honestly, I'm really glad for that intro. I think I needed to hear that. I'm taking college courses for the medical field, so the complexities of life having been weighing hard on the mind. It's probably why I like art and post-scarcity scif shows so much, lol. Though, I guess I also feel weird putting a price tag on art. Like, capitalism can subsume critiques of capitalism itself. We've looped back round to Che Guevara T-shirts. But I also want to be realistic, because we can't drop the entire damn system at once. That would be insane!

If you have the time James, I would love to see a video about the subject matter you brought up during the intro in episode 8 reaction. There's A LOT to unbox there.

Someone said: "The Wire doesn't try to grab and keep your attention. It *requires* it. But if you give it your attention, it will reward you."

Damn it this show is good I wish I could wipe it and rewatch it for the first time again, I hope you keep another HBO classic in mind for some times in the future. You know which one I'm talking about!

Carnivale was spectacular. It's cancellation was so disappointing.

I'm loving how much you've been enjoying these early episodes. Normally, I'd being saying "cool it" when someone begins comparing just a few episodes of a show to the greats like Breaking Bad, but not this time. The Wire is my #1 show with a bullet. I think you said it right when you said there all small moments that really stick out and just hit, and that's exactly what keeps me bringing me back to rewatch and spend time just pondering on the topics the show covers. As Lester Freamon says, "all the pieces matter." So keep keying in on those small moments, those neat camera details, and themes cuz this show will reward you for it. I'm so excited to watch the rest of the show with you and especially next week. You're in for one of the truly great episodes, in my opinion. We haven't even begun to peak for what this show can deliver. I want to say more, but won't spoil it for you. Just know that I had a seriously visceral reaction to it my first time through.

Good call. Important to know that at the time this was made Baltimore was the heroin capital of the USA (probably still is). Our port is the furthest inland port on the East coast so it’s the #1 destination for large expensive shipping items like cars and farm equipment. Just hide bricks in false panels and boom. 95 is the main artery of the East coast and runs right through it. Within 5 minutes it’s on the road and then 60 minutes to DC, 1.5 to Philly, 3 to NYC Also why Orlando was looking to buy coke from Luisiana and the Jamaicans. All that stuff came from down south and was really expensive.

I have to say it now since you talk about an era of great shows and making something great. This was the golden era of HBO. Wire, sopranos, Rome, and Carnivale….you NEED to check out Carnivale. It’s my favorite show, maybe of all time, and was unfortunately cut short. It was planned for 3 2-season arcs and it only got 2 seasons due to Rome and Sopranos costing millions. If you ignore the last 2 minutes it has an ending but the last 2 minutes sets the cliffhanger for the next arc which was never made. But it is absolutely amazing, it uses storytelling devices I’ve never seen done in other shows and bends and melds the elements of various genres. It’s unlike anything you will ever watch! Get around to it one day!!!

Theres no coke or crack. Its dope. Notice he nodded off. Only the strippers do coke. Wallace started doin dope bc he got Omars bf killed not just bc he saw his dead body. U can show the show on patreon, thats y ppl use it. That way u could follow better by pausing to talk & u will miss less. The quote is given every ep u just have to focus so u don't miss it...or show the show so u can rewind

Black Valyria

I forgot how much of a WILDCARD he is

James Adams

Hahahaha truthfully

James Adams

Your reaction to it was on point. "Oh-mar! Oh-mar!" LOL

Kana Kawase

Episode 8 has one of the great Omar scenes, but the best are still yet to come.

Kana Kawase

Great stuff as usual, and shout out to Vanessa Hudgens. Forget just getting up for her at 2AM, I'd drive cross country all hours of the night for Vanessa Hudgens.
