The Wire EP 3 & 4 Early Uncut Access

The Wire is finally coming to the scene and I'm excited to get into this narrative. I'm genuinely already immersed within this world and it's characters and can't wait for the journey that's about to unfold. The writing, filmmaking, compositions etc, all remind me of what makes a GREAT show stand out from just a good one. Let's get it!

So James I’m rewatching with you in the uncut version, and I noticed something really cool in this rewatch I hadn’t in my previous watches. When Deangelo goes to Stringer to pay and get paid, and stringer is impressed. He mentions it’s just because it’s check day. Which implies they spend their pay immediately on their vices. What I noticed is that Deangelo turns around and does the same thing immediately after. He gets paid and puts that money down to find companionship, because we can see how alone he feels among his peers.

WHAT! Hahaha that's awesome, I did not know that!

Great reactions. Since you brought up Idris Elba's accent again, you might be interested to know that the main detective McNulty (Dominic West) is also English.

Man... Ima need you to binge/react this entire series in about a week, haha. Two episodes a week is such a tease 🤣

Omar's coming, yo! Omar's coming!

this show is so good, happy to see you get started on it. the big parallels in this show reminds me of a one piece quote: "Kids who have never seen peace and kids who have never seen war have different values."

It's mad funny seeing you kinda shocked by Idris Elba's accent. For all of us who first saw him act in this show, we were SHOCKED to learn he was British. I've seen a famous comedian (forgot his name) even make a joke about it.

I hope you're sticking around to listen to the outro music and just cutting that part out of the reaction. 😉 There are episodes with really emotional endings and those cymbals that start the music feel like they actually sting sometimes. I decided to dig out my old DVDs to watch this instead of on a stream. I kind of like the classic 4:3 TV screen ratio. When they convert old shows to widescreen, they usually end up chopping off the top/bottom of the video, but with The Wire they shot it on 35mm film and actually had extra footage on the left/right to work with. So they basically zoomed out to reveal more rather than having to cut anything off. In some scenes they had to use CGI to remove filming equipment that was originally unseen.
