The Wire EP 1 & 2 Early Uncut Access

The Wire is finally coming to the scene and I'm excited to get into this narrative. I'm genuinely already immersed within this world and it's characters and can't wait for the journey that's about to unfold. The writing, filmmaking, compositions etc, all remind me of what makes a GREAT show stand out from just a good one. Let's get it!

James Edwards

The conversion of the sopranos and the wire to full screen is truly impressive

Eligh Te

That's amazing 🤣

Chaos T

Same!

Mathieu Paquin

One of the writers was also a former Baltimore police officer and had one other job that is prescient in later seasons, but I don't want to reveal too much... not really spoilers, but the way the narrative expands each season really shows incredible attention to detail as well as having the patience to things unfold and intertwine in really subtle, but important ways

Yes that’s the only moment of surrealism in the entire show. Probably to guide the people they had to sell the pilot to.

Mak G

FINALLY!!! YES!!! AHHHHHH!!!

Kim Jong Rasputin

Finally starting the greatest show ever made. BTW, the show originally aired in 4:3 so you’ll see the space on the far sides not being utilized as much. Also, the flashback showing who the dude who died is the only flashback in the show. It’s a show that does not hold your hand and trusts its audience. It’s incredibly dens. Every time I watch it, I discover something new

Legion

Hell yeh homie! I’ve been waiting for this for a long time! I know you are gonna love this series.

Dillon H

This isn't before computers. IIRC the cops are just so underfunded that they're still stuck with typewriters.

JC Willard

The thing about this era of HBO shows, be it The Wire, The Sopranos, or Deadwood, is how DENSE with detail every episode feels compared to everything that came a decade later and populates TV screens today. Another thing that I absolutely love about these shows is how there is just enough style and purposefulness in the visuals, but most importantly, the environments feel authentic and alive, with characters actually living there and not just teleporting through sets to engage in dialogue. All in all, you are absolutely right, James, the layers are there from the start, and this show deserves to be dissected.

Artem Sheverenov

This show is so black lol

Mack M

S3 and s4 peak television but everything else is still top tier

Mack M

That’s really exciting! The conversations are going to be great for this show!

I have worked some in the Baltimore film community and knew many people who worked on The Wire. There isn’t a film studio setup there. Most shooting is on location with makeshift soundstages set up in vacant buildings for the more commonly used locations.

Jonathan

The show has great authenticity because the creator of the show was a journalist who prior to the show spent 1 year shadowing the police for a book that became the series Homicide: Life on the Street and another year hanging out in one of Baltimore’s worst drug areas for a second book that became the HBO docudrama The Corner. There was a lot of material for both books that was unusable due to clearance issues so he used his experience as well as retired cop Ed Burns to create a fictional story in The Wire that takes inspiration from a lot of real events.

Jonathan

Funny thing about Idris Elba's accent is that the producer's tried to to stick with American actors when casting for the show. So Elba didn't let on that he was British until after he got the part and totally stunned everyone, who had no clue.

Brandon

Oh man here we go. I know you’ve seen game of thrones, expect the start to be similar in that it’s mostly establishing the characters and world. Its storytelling is often compared to novels. They use this show as a “literary text” in college courses about urban inequality, social justice and power of institutions. Excited to see your reaction!

Eligh Te

Happy to be checking it out for the first time with ya James

Matt

The goat has entered the building.

Kenneth thomas

We are off to a great start!!

James Adams

Man, all I can say is get ready for a ride like no other. I know you’ve already seen a number of A tier shows already because of your supporters but I have no doubt this is still gonna become one of your favorites. To this day I still haven’t seen a better series even though some have come close.

Here we go!
