The wire is TV at it's peak. It's not only great TV, but important TV, as it tackles some wide reaching and complex problems, that are relevant even now. But hey, if Sopranos takes the cake this time, then the Wire will win the next one in 86 weeks, as these two shows are always very close in polls. Me personally, I'd love to see The Wire win, but, here's to a fair race.

I'm in the minority here. I think the writing, directing and cinematography in Peaky Blinders destroys everything here. I understand why people like Sopranos or The Wire more, but Peaky Blinders is actually unreal.

I know you stopped watching the Star Wars shows and after Boba Fett I dont blmae you but I cant recommend Andor highly enough. It is so beautifully written and made and acted and in fact could easily be set anywhere and in any universe and still be as good. I stand by this when I say it is the best piece of SW since Empire Strikes back and in a lot of ways is better. Given how layered it is you would have a blast sinking your teeth in to it and be a joy hearing your takes on it. As good as some of the shows on this list are I always say that Andor is the best TV since The West Wing :) which you should check out sometime as well, stay awesome and stay genuine <3

For sure but sopranos has a few throwaway episodes too enough to amount to a whole season. A lot of the early stuff you can tell they are still experimenting with the format. The wire also just does more in an hour.

One thing about the Wire, and I don't believe this could be considered a spoiler: Each season of the wire is different from the last, with a different focus. Some viewers were expecting it to be more of a continuation of season 1 and were unhappy, but the series is more like an anthology. You'll enjoy it more if you don't have that expectation. I actually think you'll really appreciate the structure of the series as a whole.

The Wire, Sons of Anarchy, Shogun I would recommend Firefly if you get the chance. There are only 14 episodes followed by the film Serenity. Great world-building, dialogue, meals at the dinner table ... and you can finish it in 16 hours

"House of the Dragon" storytelling brings a lot of things that were great about Game of Thrones season 1-4. "Shogun" proves people from the US are okay with subtitles. "The Wire" is one of the greatest shows written.
