The Godfather III (1990) Uncut Reaction!

Yeah, to be fair, Sofia didn't aspire to be an actress, directing is her passion. And she's so damn good at it. 🔥

Linda

Well, that and she did not want to do the the film to start with. She was only interested in filmmaking at that time and Winona Ryder dropped out at the last moment and only agreed to do the film as a favor to her Dad because it was too late in the process to audition anyone for the part.

Her lethargic performance probably had a lot to do with the heavy Valley Girl accent she affected. I heard they had to practically beat it out of her; it was really difficult for her to stop.

The actress that played Mary was Francis Ford Coppola’s daughter, Sophia Coppola. She may not have been the best actress, but she is one hell of a director and screenwriter. She was nominated for Best Picture, Best Director, and won Best original screenplay for Lost in Translation.

So this is the "Coda" version that was released a few years ago. Some of the scenes have a rearranged order and some of the scenes were shortened in editing. The final scene in the theatrical version cuts to a wide shot where Michael actually collapses dead in his chair, where this version cuts his death out entirely. I'm pretty sure the scene where Mary tells Michael "No" that she won't stop seeing Vincent ends with her running away in tears like a child throwing a tantrum - this version actually makes her acting better by hard cutting to the next scene after the "no". A huge minus in this movie is the absence of Robert Duvall, who wanted a certain amount of money and the studio said no. I think the theatrical version makes it more obvious that Tom died off screen between films, but this version kind of dances around him being dead and treats it like he's off somewhere else. Your reaction to the younger hitman that does a donkey impression made me realize this movie has all kinds of little things that make you wonder why they even included that. Like why is there a shot of a gangster in the helicopter hit scene yelling "uhhhh i need my lucky coat!" right before he gets filled full of bullets while holding his lucky coat? Overall, I do like this movie - but it's easily the lesser of the trilogy.

Did you catch the cameo by Martin Scorsese's mom in the cafe? 💕

Linda

Yes, Michael lived for many more years with his demons. He was not let off the hook.

Linda

Who else thought of that one scene in “Cure” when Michael drops to his knees with that silent anguished scream on his face?

Michael Proch

I want to see James watch The Sopranos now.

Kana Kawase

Just when I thought I was out.. they pull me back in

Matt

People were pissed because Winona Ryder was supposed to play Mary and George Hamilton replaced the Tom Hayden character.
