One of the biggest problems with the Peter Jackson LoTR movies is his decision to portray the orcs as these animalistic primitive barbarians. The books are still problematic but the orcs are meant to be the technologically superior progenitors of industrial warfare. They should have been space marines or something. The birthing scene should have been in a lab. Sorry, I’ll die mad about those movies but they have been disproportionately influential on some of the worst people. Tech bro orcs and gender switching in the first Matrix and the right-wing lose 95% of their capacity to metaphor.
