172: Unglazed, with Jeremy Kaplowitz

Comments

Crystal Ball last week, Rachel Gilmore 3 weeks ago, cassie Wilson the week before that, Nora Barrows before Christmas, Jamie Loftus a couple of weeks before, Orly Noy, Noam Shuster Eliassi, Rolla Selbak, Briahna Joy, Matt Bernstein, etc. And that just the last 3 months or so. Don’t you think your comment says more about which episodes you decide to watch rather the episodes that they actually make? Very puzzling comment.

Man that Daniel outro, I think my favorite of all time. And the bar is fucking high.

Matt - your “room” vowel is closer to the vowel in “push” - [ʊ] in the International Phonetic Alphabet. Others rhyme it with “boom” - [u] or probably technically the unrounded version [ɯ]. Linguists accept all pronunciations and all are valid communication as long as the meaning comes through as you intended 😘

I've complained a lot in recent episodes and will do so more in the future, but I appreciated most of this one.

The yeshiva protestors were no doubt genuine in their Hamas chant and I agree with them to the extent of a right to resist. But Ryan Grimm is right is that this is also sectarian in the lexicon of the left, i.e. pushing one tendency’s position in a way that narrows the movement. I’d argue strongly against this going on a poster or chant sheet or being chanted. On the other hand this is an internal debate for the left and movement not helped by bourgeois media distortions.

Love the podcast but you guys need more queer and female guests on the show because I bet you wouldn't be making all these "Isn't having sex with men humiliating" jokes if it wasn't such a bro fest most of the time.

Matt really de-glazed and washed that particular frying pan!! (Oh come on, it works 😂)

🇵🇹 Portugal mention! 🇵🇹 I have some family there so I got to see it for the first time recently, and I can confirm there is a bunch of graffiti in Lisbon, Porto and Coimbra. A lot of it says "free Palestine" and "love and solidarity to the children of Palestine" and things like that. I wouldn't know about any Actual Antisemitism that might have snuck in since I don't speak Portuguese and wouldn't recognize slurs, but given that I also saw a bunch of pro-antifa and gender anarchy signs, I believe Portuguese graffiti artists are mostly pretty based. Much better than the ones I've seen here in NYC, at least.

Good on y'all for showing the petulant piggies that you're not just defensive and you're capable of engaging with these critiques and delivering the slop they were begging for 💜💜
