Charlton Heston is one of my fav classic actors. His performances are unique. They have a manic intensity that some may not dig cause it goes into that “camp” territory that you describe. But I think it mostly works. I recommend his other sci fi classics like Soylent Green and Omega Man if you haven’t done them yet. Also rec his biblical epics like 10 Commandments and Ben Hur

They're not all good, but the 3rd and 4th are really excellent : "escape from the planet of the apes" and "conquest of the planet of the apes", featuring a certain ape called Caesar... Yes, Matt Reeves' incredible trilogy didn't invent everything :).
