It's funny that you say you never heard of this film because in one of the later season of Breaking Bad, Hank directly references it to Walt in one of their best exchanges. French Connection is one of my favorite movies and is a movie that was trying to one up Bullit that came out a few years before it and while not as gritty as French Connection, Bullit shares its procedural style and sense of a very specific time and place. It also has an epic car chase at the end of the 2nd act before going into the third, just like this one. Both are fantastic.
