Been meaning to rewatch this film for over 5 years and I'm glad I got to rewatch it along with your reaction to it... I've realized on this watch that I find it to be, not only better than every other film imo, but just kinda everything I want from cinema. Also, I'd strongly recommend Tarkovsky's Mirror, as well as (if you haven't already seen them) Angel's Egg and August in the Water.

Also, if you're interested in reading about his creative process, Tarkovsky has a book titled Sculpting in Time where he talks about his ideas, his inspiration and about cinema as an art form. Though it would probably be a good idea to watch several of his movies beforehand.
