‘388 Arletta Avenue’ is a unique film. I was instantly captivated and horrified. The manner in which they placed the cameras draws you in. A must see, at least for the technical aspects.

I know this is a super late recommendation, the The Fall (2007) is a phenomenal movie that is absolutely gorgeous. It is so overlooked it is criminal. I honestly don't know if it would do well on your channel, but for your own personal viewing I think you would very much appreciate it

"Ravenous" (1999) A curious, period piece horror film starring Guy Pearce, Robert Carlyle and enough subtext to write a thesis or two. Directed by Antonia Bird who was, from my understanding, a favorite of the London art-house scene. It's weird, funny, occasionally thrilling and just overall enjoyable. And from a more pragmatic standpoint, there's a bunch of weird-o movie nerds like me who love it and very, very few people who have reacted to or discussed it. Should do pretty good numbers.

I would recommend Parasite (2019), I know it won Best Motion Picture of the Year at the oscars 2019 but it still blew my mind how incredible this movie was. Its a korean comedy/thriller that touches on some very deep subjects that would be interesting to hear your thought about. Its definitely one of those movies that lingers in your head a couple of days after you've seen it because it is just so good. As a filmmaker I think you'll love it :) If you haven't seen the trailer yet, don't do it. just watch it completly blind for best experiecne

I have three for you! Luc Besson's highly stylistic action/drama, Leon: The Professional. The extended cut is definitely preferred over the standard. Michael Mann's epic LA crime masterpiece Heat and Battle Royale, a Japanese movie about a class of teenagers that are taken to an island and forced to fight to the death until 1 remains.

Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World! The lost masterpiece of the early 2000's as it had the misfortune to come out the same year as LOTR Return of the King, and thus lost basically every oscar to it. A joyous, Napoleonic seafaring Odyssey with great performances and an amazing sampling of period music. Also, never seen a reaction to it before ;)

Would love to see The Wrestler (2009) It was directed by Darren Aronofsky who has done movies like, Black Swan, and Requiem for a Dream. It's a beautiful film with incredible performances, and it has one of the greatest endings in film history. I highly suggest this film as it is an absolute masterpiece.

I Saw The Devil by Kim jee-woon with the same actor as old boy, it's one of the best Korean thriller out there (and God knows these guys are good in that genre). It's a really well crafted movie, some shots are insane and overhaul it's not a movie you will forget. A small warning though, the violence goes very far.

The Transfiguration is a great little netflix movie. Highly recommended

I am going to again recommend you watch some classic low budget "feel good movies" that no one thought would go anywhere and ended up blockbusters and/or Golden Globe and Oscar nominated. When watching: ask why these movies connected so with audiences and jaded critics. The British are the best at these movies and best examples are The Full Monty - 1997 and Billy Elliot - 2000. Director John Carney made the movie "Once" in 2007 for $150,000.00 and it won an Oscar! His 2016 movie "Sing Street" was nominated for Golden Globe and is a most see for any music lover - especially of 80's music and music videos. 1979 movie "Breaking Away" directed by Peter Yates is one of the greatest Oscar under dog stories anywhere. Budget of 2 million, foreign director and screenwriter, no names at the time and went on to dominate all Oscar categories and won for best screenplay. Eight Grade by Bo Burnham (2018) is good example of this type of movie recently.

A rather underrated Netflix film called Triple Frontier is really good in my opinion for reacting. It has a great cast like Ben Affleck, Oscar Isaac, Charlie Hunnam, Pedro Pascal, and more. It's about an old military squad that gets back together to rob a drug lord. It's not a crazy deep film, but it is an extremely stressful watch and touches on a lot of the horrors that happens to kids and families in South America that are at the fate of the cartels. Definitely worth the watch if you have a chance!

Do The Right Thing because it really reflects today's racial themed problems and it is also a masterpiece. Being John Malkovich because it is the most unique film you'll ever see and I'd really love to see your reaction to it. Finally, someone on here mentioned Climax before and I would also love to see your reaction on that film.

I would like to recommend You Were Never Really Here, directed by Lynne Ramsay. Besides being one of my favorite movies of the last decade, it seems like something you would really enjoy as well. Art house thriller with a wonderful soundtrack.

Super from James Gunn. It's a personal favorite of mine. Not so much for the cinematography, but more for the sheer creativity and neat take on a "super hero" film. Creative, fantastic performances, and all around James Gunn goodness. Also, Kevin Bacon.

Mishima: a life in four chapters. Directed by Paul Schrader the writer for taxi driver. Amazing film

I would recommend "The Handmaiden" . A great story with a lot of twists, which is beautiful shot. Its from the director who did oldboy. You will love it.

The Grey. This movie was marketed horribly as an action film starring Liam Neeson when it is SO much more than that. It is thoughtful and sad, with an amazingly haunting score. It's #9 in my top 10 list and my #1 in my hidden gems list. :)

You love good scripts, you should study Shane Black.

Waves. There is a film making technique that i haven't seen pulled off this perfectly before and it only adds to the overall greatness of the film. The soundtrack is done by Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross(Gone girl, The Social Network ect.) And the acting is Amazing. I can't recommend Waves enough.

I recommend you watch Smoke Signals. It’s truly a remarkable film that was made entirely by the Indigenous community. It sparks a massive conversation and brings light to a lot of issues that people face on a day to day basis. The film also discusses a lot of misconceptions and stereotypes associated with Indigenous peoples and tackles them head on. It truly is a remarkable film with wonderful performances that is not only powerful but inspirational as well. I think you’ll love it.

Definitely look at Black Swan if you’ve never seen it. The new Netflix film ‘Devil all the Time’ with Tom Holland is also fantastic (albeit brutally violent). Lastly, I can’t say I’d recommend anything more than Burning, a 2018 Korean psych thriller- widely considered one of the best movies of the last decade, but seldom known in the US. The trailer will immediately have you hooked.

If you haven't seen it I'd recommend Eraserhead directed by David Lynch! It's the ultimate weird movie with a good message and terrific sound design. It's also Lynch's first full length film and, in my opinion, an essential horror movie to watch!
