[POLL] Series VS Self Contained
Added 2020-01-17 19:34:07 +0000 UTCI've asked this question before, in various forms, and will probably do so again. But it's always interesting to me, and highlights a frequent struggle of mine when writing these *types* of stories.
Do you guys like/prefer the stories to be all in one big cohesive canon? Or does it not matter as much and enjoy more self-contained stories?
For me, for these *types* of stories, the most interesting part is always that first act of taboo, and exploring how and why it happens. There are so many angles to explore it from, but it's most interesting the first time it happens. Which is why with most of the chapters in Padme's Younglings, there's little reference to previous events. For one thing, I often change my mind and revise older ideas and stories, and having to update every other reference is a pain and usually a waste of time.
I've been trying to keep things more open-ended with my stories lately, so they work as both part of a larger canon, and within their own momentary logic.
That said, Junior Jedi Academy is a concerted effort to keep it all in line, despite more revisions that I would have liked. But thankfully that one is in the final stretch, for part 1 at least.
