a question for everyone, part 2

wow that was a lot of feedback, which is great and exactly what I want.

here I will propose a change that is a little bit draconian and all-consuming, and once more I insist on having all your opinions.

first of all, we do like I asked about a month ago and have the list reset yearly. so everyone has to re-opt-in once a year. I think this is fair and I think many people agree with this. The difference, however, is that when you submit, you give me your three games straight away. The way I see it, sometimes I might want to pick a game directly if I want, but also with every event I would spill on the list of Royals, the only difference is that now I would have my three games immediately. However, by being picked, you still get a chance to get in touch with me and we can have a discussion about the picks and whatnot.

But, and this is an important distinction, this means I *do not* have to run around looking for the royal myself, and I don't have to wait after submissions. If we don't get in touch, I will assume that the submitted list is good and valid.

But raocow, what if I change my mind? That's fine honestly! You would always have the option of contacting me directly, either through discord pm or patreon messages or however you like and change things up as you see fit.

But raocow, what about the situation where, say, I give my nominations and like nine months later I actually win but none of the games I nominated I care about anymore and I didn't think to tell you about this ahead of time oh no!! That's fine, you would still get a week to contact me after being called up. Like that week of delay between 'things get picked' and 'things get finalised' still remain. If you get in touch with me and change all three games, that's fine, I have no problems with that. But the onus will be on *you* to get in touch with *me*, and not the other way around as it has been.

so tl;dr, basically, is same as it's been going, but you give your submissions as you opt-in. these submissions can be changed at anytime, even after you get picked as a royal, but you have to get in touch with me instead of the other way around. also, the royal list will reset and require re-opting in once a year.

is this clear? do people foresee any problems? the votes and chaos wheel and all that would still be happening. This would also eliminate the court system but honestly I don't mind that, I don't like that it was pitting different people's choices directly it turns out.

This was basically what I was suggesting with my comment so hoo ray! Not sure how contacting the Royal is done now but it'd be nice if the Royal pick was Discord @'d/DMed/emailed to be like "Hey in case you missed the video you got it" once. But if that's exactly what you don't want to do I'm sure it won't be a big deal. It'd just make sitting down and watching the video ASAP more important. And I guess the community can @ too. But yeah, that's my only ""fear"", so I say go with the updated system

Seems like a good idea to me, especially that we'd submit our games beforehand. Removes the frustration from having to wait for our response. Plus we can always just communicate changes. Only question I've got is, how would the yearly re-opting work? Do we just send you like a dm once a year? Or will there be like a yearly poll or something with everyone who wishes to remain voting as such?

Aal

Sounds good!

Space

This all sounds good! When should we keep our eyes out for the reset to happen?

ThatNeilJ

That sounds good. I wll try to participate for once !

Plmers

I'll start thinking which games to choose

Specter CD

This works for me. I do have a list of games already noted down so I could easily submit them, and I don't think my opinion would heavily change. I'd just echo to make it very clear when re-upping needs to happen so that there's no confusion on that. But I imagine it won't be that difficult to do so.

Doctor Novakaine

To echo what Whim said, there should be a leeway of some kind. Be it December 1st you open submissions, or February 1st you delete the list of year's past. But so long as you post at least that "hey I've opened submissions" and "hey I deleted all previous submissions, if you've not re-submitted, well pox on you until you do" it shouldn't be too big a deal.

WeskAlber

sounds good! it's not too complicated; for people that are only half paying attention, the only thing you really need to clearly communicate is to opt-in again every year. everything else is basically "say something to make changes".

D

I am all in for this idea. :)

Sikodin

sounds good to me

Raekuul

Sounds good. Just please pick a random date next year to change it all again just for the comedy of it.

James Foster

This sounds fine as far as I'm concerned 😁

P.Nut

I will briefly advocate for monthly resets and submissions, assuming google forms makes that easy, because: it clears up any confusion about whether someone is still a patron, AND the fact that it is a tiny bit of busywork is actually good because it skews things towards people who really want a royal pick and pay attention to it. It's not really more work than voting every time there's a poll.

Stephen Maxwell

This makes sense. Once a year should work, and having a preliminary submission would help.

lawragatajar

I really like the idea, but I also wonder how much buffer time there will be (if any) between the annual list resetting, and re-opting for the next year? For instance, without a buffer, January 1sts will always have no royals on the list, but will rapidly populate with availability and a reminder over days. With say a buffer of one month, people could populate the royal list for Januart 1sts as early as December 1st, so the list doesn't start empty. With the buffer of say a year, people have a full year to be reminded and re-opt for the current and next year. Though that also means entries can be up to 2 years old (between the potential date of re-opting and potential date of being chosen).

Whim Widget

Yep yep, sounds great!

Lovepunch

Makes sense to me

Mibz

Yeah, seems good to me!

BobisOnlyBob

This sounds good to me. It does feel like it might cause a lot of work for you each reset cycle, but I'd imagine the not having to chase royals down for their picks would offset that.

Matthew Sharratt

That seems cool to me.

Nathaniel

Yeah this seems like the best solution imo. I know first hand how as a project runner, it can be really frustrating having to chase after somebody who might not even be aware their input/approval is required for a project to proceed.
