I agree that I really wanted to see Jeremiah insist that Belly go to Paris when he was leaving the house, and I was sooo annoyed when his response was that he didn't want her to go anyway. Belly isn't blameless but Jeremiah particularly is always trying to tell people that he's an adult, but I really need him to put his stubbornness aside, think about what the engagement is doing to Belly's relationship with her family and have some mature conversations. Everyone is telling them both that this isn't a good idea (AND they don't even know about the cheating yet), but Belly is so set on this now that a fight with her mum had her moving out of home. I think this should have been a wake up call for Jeremiah (and it could still be, who knows) that their relationship shouldn't be causing this much conflict between Belly and Laurel and he doesn't want their relationship to be as fractured as his relationships with Adam and Conrad, but he says that her going back home would only prove Laurel right. When Belly's talking to him on the phone about how Laurel didn't come shopping with her, Jeremiah says "yeah, i get it" (obviously referring to Susannah), but I would've liked for them to talk about it a bit more, and for him to show sympathy for the fact that while his mum physically can't be there for him, Belly's mum is choosing not to be there for her. These are different kinds of hurt, and him bringing up his mum kind of stops another conversation from happening where they'd be exploring how they're feeling and might hold a mirror to the issues that they won't address, and again has them using Susannah to justify their relationship in a way.

I actually thought this episode did a really good job of showing why Belly & Jere shouldn’t be together which is crazy cause it seemed to have had the opposite effect on you guys. But, first there’s the constant mentioning of Susannah. They are ALWAYS bringing up Susannah to justify their relationship. In episode 2 when Jere was talking about how Belly has been his whole world since his mom died and how in his speech to Laurel he said after his mom died he didn’t think anyone would be his person again, but then Belly picked him. They got together so soon after Susannah died that I don’t think either one ever properly grieved her and it’s turned into this weird codependent relationship where Jere has filled the Susannah shaped whole with Belly and Belly has taken on this role of always protecting Jeremiah’s feelings as a mother would. They clung to each other so hard that they now can’t be separated and that codependency has prevented them from growing for the last 4 years which is so stark when you compare their behavior/actions to other characters. Also, the two of them mocking Conrad multiple times this episode is also another thing because when each of them are with Conrad alone they can treat him like a normal person but when it’s the two of them alone, but his presence is nearby, they treat him like a common enemy and like….make fun of him in order to cope with him being present. It’s really weird and over the top and would not be something you would do if A) you were over him (Belly) and B) didn’t feel like he was still competition (Jeremiah). Belly talking like a child making fun of him for being “a grown up at Stanford Medical school”. Girl, where is the drag, what is happening to you? This isn’t you girl. I don’t know. I think the purpose of this episode was to show how immature and disconnected the two really are from reality (Jere saying he thinks they’ll be okay financially because Belly’s favorite food is shin ramen. Jere please. Read the room.) Also, the show incorporating the flashback to show that Laurel knew Belly wasn’t ready to sleep alone when Susannah thought she was ready. They really wanted to hammer home that Laurel knows Belly better than anyone (also using the deb ball dress as another example). Showing that Laurel’s fears weren’t unfounded with Belly now giving up Paris too. Belly is very much not acting like Belly. She’s losing herself and this codependency between her and Jeremiah is not healthy and they’ll never be able to grow and become the best versions of themselves if they don’t have their own experiences. This isn’t healthy for either of them.

Okay. One last comment. I’m genuinely confused why we would have to assassinate Jere’s character for the actual endgame ship to sail? Like I genuinely don’t see how anyone thinks belly is Jere’s happy ending. He loves her…sure. But they are not in love with each other. They literally asked Lola tung what jelly’s relationship is like and the only word she could muster up is “fun”. Like you guysss, don’t we want more for both belly and Jere as individuals?!? They literally NEVER have one serious conversation. People talk about Conrad opening up….but when are they gonna open up and have one real conversation?? Conrad isnt the only one avoiding. Is belly gonna admit why she’s keeping Christmas 2.0 a secret? Are they ever gonna really talk about Cabo? Are they gonna have one conversation about each others individual dreams and aspirations? What they’re gonna do after they get married in 6 weeks?! The had 2 serious things happen and we saw how they dealt with it. The first time they broke up. And the second time, they papered over it and decided to get married. Like I’m sorry but nothing about that is cute or functional to me. The show doesn’t have to destroy Jere to make the other ship sail. They just have to wake these two kids up and make them realize that they’re wrong for each other? Like it should be just as much Jere’s realization as it is belly’s. there was nothing cute about that scene at laurel’s. He raced and got her a last minute cake and we’re calling that cute yall. It was his girlfriend’s 21st bday. How about pre planning one thing instead of throwing whatever together on the day of?!? And don’t get me started on the Paris thing. Their codependency and lack of growth as individuals is startling. How could we be rooting for them holding each other back. I love Jere! I seriously do but he needs someone who challenges him. And he needs to stop seeing belly as some prize that dictates his sense of self worth! He literally tells Laurel “but belly picked me”. Who cares Jeremiah! You would have still been the tits if she didn’t pick you. And deep down, he doesn’t believe that because everyone treats him like he’s stupid. And Adam made him feel inferior to Conrad. Okay, off my soap box. But if you’re watching the show and think belly is Jere’s happy ending, I don’t get it. I want more for my sweet angel baby. Someone who is eye fucking him the way belly is eye fucking his brother.

Ngl how dumb is Jeremiah to think that Conrad would agree to be best man😭😭 like when Conrad nd belly were together, Jeremiah didn’t even wanna be around them but he thinks Conrad wants to be his best man??!??? Lmao
