Also, Luffy is mostly immune to blunt force injuries (which is why he could fall from the top of the marine base in EP01 and get hit on the head by Alvida's club) but he can be injured by cuts & stabs, which is why Kuro could hurt him. And sea water, of course. The show is a little more loose with what can & can't hurt him to keep it slightly more realistic, but that's the general rule with Luffy's weaknesses.
