Friday Watch Share

I hand in my next book on Monday so I’m existing in full tunnel vision, a void beyond time and space.

Excited to get into all the things come Tuesday (if my pile of dirty and/or unfolded laundry doesn’t bury me first). I’ve held off on Blackout so I can roll around in it next week. What else are you watching?

Also to those of your here who Iive in places effected by the hurricane(s), please know we are all thinking of you and your loved ones, and wishing you safety and quick return of power and peace.

I would say don't start What Comes After Love now, wait till all 6 are there. It is SO GOOD and it's really horrible waiting for it.

Ah late to this! Not a lot of kdrama watching for me this week sadly for various reasons but next week is looking clear 🙏 LOVE NEXT DOOR - landed its ending for me, lots of feel good and smiles. I’ve enjoyed this drama a lot but I do get why others didn’t. I’ll be doing a deep dive on this with Tea & Soju Pod and me and Grace will be doing a Confucian episode on it for Afternoona Asks CULINARY CLASS WARS - waited to binge this but did mean I got the winner spoilt for me. Still worth it cos it was really entertaining cooking x Korean reality Physical 100 type show. Chef Ahn who is one of the judges and the only 3 star Michelin chef in Korea exudes such Big Dick Energy. I enjoy seeing that in a non white man 😂. Wanna eat at all their restaurants ❤️ Didn’t watch any new episodes but still watching DEAR HYERI, LOVE LIKE THE GALAXY and still keep meaning to start WHAT COMES AFTER LOVE.

First, well done on your teen and preteen drama handling! All this praise for WCAL from folks I think of as having tastes similar to mine has got me itching to watch but I am heeding the advice to wait. Super interesting thoughts about a FL written as a ML! Now I want to think about what other dramas do that…. I’ll be interested to hear how The Third Charm goes for you. A friend suggested it when I said I was in the mood for something “really, really sad,” so maybe the low ratings reflect that rather than a quality drop? Shockingly to me, there are people who get mad at sad dramas!! Ashamed to say I did *not* make it through the ahjumma perm, but could definitely be persuaded to return if the feels are big.

Happy Saturday 🙂. This week was lots of parenting drama as both of my kids independently got themselves into teen/pre-teen trouble the same day. Not my favorite part, glad to have drama land to retreat to at the end of the day. Love Next Door - they gave us a nice, sunny ending, not just for our leads but for the whole community. Definitely plan to revisit this cast of characters, could see this turning into a future comfort watch. Good Partner - down to the last episode. I really like the arc this has ended up taking and watching our leads grow into themselves. There was a dark turn involving violent domestic abuse in eps 13-14, just flagging for anyone who needs a content warning. The way it's handled in the plot feels fully shocking and awful but not gratuitous in terms of how it's resolved and the aftermath. I've been thinking about how Nam Ji Hyun's character is written kind of like a ML in the sense that she starts off very earnest and sure of herself, always wearing a serious face, then warms up as the series goes on and she opens up to the other characters. Now we get to see lots of her beautiful smile. What Comes After Love - like LND it's so hard to wait. Pondering Carolien's question about why this ML hits different - def agree. Rinko-san Wants to Try - appreciating the MDL round-ups of short episode dramas, tried this one on a whim and ended up watching it all this week. A little spicy but mostly sweet, the story of two coworkers who are super competent and attractive, who make a pact to rid themselves of their secret virgin status. But can they really separate emotions from the first physical awakening? And what happens when a long lost first love and a sexy videographer get thrown into the mix? Story mostly from her perspective, my only quibble is the ML has beautiful eyes but he's a little under drawn and wears the same expression for most of the show. She makes up for it with many close-ups of all the different facial expressions, in that slightly broad J-romcom style. Fun and easy, rec if you liked or almost liked Eye Love You. Also picked up The Third Charm this week, which was on my watchlist I think because of a mention here (was it the Lee Sang Yi moment?). Only 3 episodes in, I'm enjoying Esom in a romantic lead role and spending time with Seo Kang Joon, our cozy sweater-clad good guy from When the Weather Is Fine and the dimpled bad boy from Cheese in the Trap. Also love Park Gyu Young as the smart nosy sister who immediately sees everything going on. (Is it odd that I love this character for her even more than FL in Dali? Just a perfect deadpan.) Very happy to be past the ML's ridiculous ahjumma perm and in a happy romantic stage, but worried something is going to go off the rails, because why is the MDL rating so low?
