Podcast Discussion Thread

I forgot it was Wednesday until I got notified the podcast dropped 🤡

I’m flying out on a red-eye to NYC tonight and trying to get all my loose ends tied up. At this point I’m willing to accept most ends at least half-tied. My house is currently a construction zone due to some fun winter water damage, and if I don’t start writing Chapter 2 of my next book on the plane then I’m going to be entering a situation.

But in two days I’ll be with Megan!!!!!! And tomorrow I get to see my agent (who I talk to a few times a week but haven’t beheld in person since 2018) and meet my editor. I will be bringing a 8yo and 13yo to HarperCollins. They shall have also have endured a red-eye and yeah…my prayer is lots of ice cream and shameless bribes will see us through.

I’ll send pics.

We also got proof of life from Amy. She made it safe to London!

Open thread below to chat this week’s pod :)

Enjoyed the love triangle discussion this week, especially the contrast and comparison from different dramas and the grades or degrees of love triangles. Also, thanks for answering my question about what makes a top drama for you. I agree about the ones that stay with me -- themes and characters and plot twists that I think about long after the drama ends -- those are my favorites.

Katie, it was an excellent point you made, and provided great fodder for discussion.

So … the thing about hot takes is you sometimes find yourself going, “WTF was I thinking?!” But seriously, thank you for taking up my “Resolved: Reply 1988 is NOT a love triangle” because the discussion was an interesting and instructive reminder of the expansiveness and flexibility of tropes. You helped me see that what I actually find compelling about a Love Triangle is not the protagonist's ultimate choice but the uncertainty and ache and confusion of everyone involved . . . as, um, PERFECTLY illustrated in Reply 1988!
