Friday Watch Share
Added 2024-06-14 13:49:54 +0000 UTCI’m not sure how I remembered it was Friday. I’m in the middle of my university’s spring move out and summer move in, book edits/stuff, and Jin from BTS coming out of military (got up at 4am to watch his return event). For real, I’ve lost touch with space and time. I’m behind on everything—including drama watching—and I’m working hard at not feeling guilty or stress and just keep swimming! Much to look forward to, including: seeing some of your faces in San Francisco on Sunday and getting to smoosh my maknae co-host Megan in less than two weeks in NYC!

Gavin, I'm currently on ep. 11 of Nirvana in Fire and loving it as well. I recommend Joy of Life if you haven't watched yet, it's also a lot of court politics (esp. S2), but with a bit more of dark comedy and romance. And although the ML is highly intelligent and a good strategist, there are other equally brilliant characters

2024-06-16 10:24:11 +0000 UTCI've been putting off Midnight Hagwon because so many said that the first 2 episodes were slow. I was surprised then to find myself on the edge of my seat in the first episode as our FL marched into the school office to ask about question 10! Turns out I LOVE THIS SHIT 🤣. Even the underlying romantic tension in the first couple of episodes made me giggle. So anyway, I binged the first 7 episodes. (Side note, I don't know why I'm always reluctant to start slow slice of life dramas. I eat them up every time.) Finished Atypical Family. I really enjoyed Ramseys take on this drama and I can't add too much more. I enjoyed the closed loop time travel and trying to work out how or why they will do what is inevitable. I adored I Na and her development from being scared and lonely to her shining on stage and that she figured out how to use her power as a strength. Her conversation with her friend at the end showed this growth. Her whole performance was incredible. I ended up loving the sister and her badarsery and when Gwi Ju told her that she was the most beautiful at highschool I wanted to cry. The uncle was perfect and the reveal of who the sixth person behind the curtain is was chefs kiss. Oooh great ending. 9/10 drama for me. (Point loss for weird chemistry between leads) Hierarchy. Boy oh boy what a pile of ttong this drama is. I feel bad for the actors. Every character was awful, I wasn't sure who I was supposed to root for and there wasn't enough back story to make me care about anyone. For a thriller (I think that's what it supposed to be) it was boring. If this was a full 16 episode drama i think it could be good. Do we blame Netflix for this? Disappointing 2/10

2024-06-15 21:59:33 +0000 UTCThis week I’ve had time for only two things. Work and Nirvana in Fire. So this week’s watchlist is going to be the shortest it’s been in a while, and extremely easy to rank List from 10/10 to 10/10: Nirvana in Fire - I actually completed this one yesterday, and it was sooooo good! I tried it a couple times in the past, but it never stuck and now I know why. I was trying it out as a first c-drama, but it isn’t beginner friendly at all. Now that I have a couple c-dramas under my belt, it made this watch much easier. This show had some amazingly written characters, whether you loved or hated them, they felt fully fleshed out. Favorite character goes to Consort Jing. She is Bae! I think I compared this to the Count of Monte Cristo last week, and I still stand by that comparison. Years of scheming, hidden identity, forlorn love. It’s been a while since I’ve been as stressed watching a show like I was watching Nirvana in Fire. I found it weird because I had absolute faith in Mei Changsu, but how everyone else was also plotting had me so worried for him. Watching his plans come to fruition, and seeing how he responded to the characters around him was some of the best moments in this show. Definitely think everyone should try Nirvana in Fire at least once, but maybe not as a first c-drama.
