DESTINED WITH YOU spoiler thread

Hi all. Amy here.

Look...I'm going to say it. The story in this drama is messy. It's all over the place at times. We have a supposed love spell gone wrong, an evil ex-girlfriend, a stalker and supposed murderer, an adorable second male lead who had his chance and blew it, IMUGI crushing on his friend's mom, and a past lives connection that has cursed one or both of our leads.

AND YET...

I'm all in. I love it. Can't quit it. Won't quit it. Is it the Rowoon effect, or is this a good drama? I don't know anymore!

Also, if you are victim to the Rowoon effect like I am, here he is singing John Legend's "All of Me" at an SF9 concert.

Yay! Happy to ride the train all the way to the station with you! And ditto to the mature romances here. I'm really enjoying them!

One thing I’ve been wondering - is Rowoon his own great great great great great grandpa, or does the curse also pass to cousins? Did he have a kid in Joseon that the curse passed on to, and if so who was the mother? If it can pass through indirect relatives, how many degrees does the curse go? Like are third cousins safe?

Of course, I love Rowoon and am definitely watching this show for him but I'm also ALL IN on the story to the point I've rewatched multiple times for clues while I theorize up a storm on my tumblr. Eunwol said this would be messy and painful as karma puts them through the ringer but it will come to an end. The writer has made this show messy to give the lovers obstacles to overcome but also to distract us from what's really happening. Here are some bullet points from my deep diving. - The Korean title of this show is This Love is a Force Majeure. In Korean, their word for force majeure is 'irresistible force'. This means their love didn't just bring them together but also has the power to break the curse since force majeures break contracts. - Yes, the magic is real. Don't look at what the characters believe. Look at what the show has shown us. We all saw the magic box unlock with Hongjo's spoken words. - Curses vs. Spells (aka Violation vs. Revelation). There's a reason why there are two separate spell books: they do opposite things. One forces you to do things or forces things to happen to you. The other reveals things to you or gives you the opportunity to do them. Hongjo and Shinyu even had a conversation about the two books describing them as white magic (good) versus black magic (bad). - There have been 6 Black Magic Curses cast in the present day: dead vlogger, fish heads, bloodied wood signs, black preserved flowers, stabbed straw doll, Shinyu's new office plant. I've only figured out what two of them do. If you were really frustrated by the actions of a character, consider they might be controlled by a curse. *wink* With 6 curses cast, how many people are being controlled or violated? - I'm so happy we officially confirmed that the mayor, Nayeon and the Haum CEO are all involved in a shady business deal to scam the city of alot of money. I doubt Kwon Jaekyung will join them but he might play along to gather info to turn them in. I'm undecided if Shinyu's father is involved as well and whether that involvement is voluntary since black magic is afoot. Is this why the gardener is in league with Nayeon? Has there been more than one scam? - As for the past lives, I think Aengcho knew people were trying to kill her and cursed herself to take them with her if they succeeded. If Mujin did kill her, I'm not sure if he was magically forced to do it or if he was trying to save her from a worse fate. Anyway, it was great we got some cute times with Hongjo and Shinyu before the major angst starts. Another one here for the Rowoon effect. I am a big fan of Jo Bo Ah, but in addition to the story problems already discussed, I don’t get a ton of chemistry between them, beyond what I view as Rowoon probably having chemistry with anyone… the same way I think like… Oscar Isaac… has chemistry with anyone🤣..…I feel like Jo Bo Ah had better chemistry with Ahn Bo Hyun (Military Prosecutor Doberman) or Park Hae Jin (Forest) or Lee Dong Wook (Tail of Nine Tailed).🤷‍♀️ Also, like Amy I’ve found myself with an unexpected soft spot for the second male lead. I’ve never seen the actor (Ha Joon) before, and his character totally blew his chance, but what can I say, both actor and character have charmed me. I realized I think part of it might be that I’m getting some Hyun Bin vibes from him. I’m always here for a good kdrama OST, and this one is working for me, especially It’s You (Park Won) and Destiny (Seo Gi). LOVE seeing Lee Bong Ryun in more roles. Also, Park Kyung Hye, even though I HATE her character in this. It feels soo one note. Always support seeing a more mature relationship, and it’s been fun to see the dynamic between Lee Bong Ryun and Hyun Bong Sik and Jung Hye Young and Imugi….and on that note, it might be time for me to finally go back and finish Tail of the Nine Tailed.🤣 Until then, I’ll ride this crazy train to the end of the line with y’all!
