Hallyu Course Announcement

(We have a few patreon Sarah’s lol)

Hi Patreons,

For anyone interested in learning more about Hallyu, the curators of the Victoria & Albert Museum have created an online course, starting 18 April. Cost is £120.00 = US$149. This is based on the fantastic exhibit, which closes June https://www.vam.ac.uk/event/7KDDq0LyO5/o23008-hallyu-story-of-korean-pop-culture-sum-2

I loved the exhibit, and signed up; watching on demand from Minnesota, USA. Here are the course details if interested.

Cheers,

Sarah

Hallyu: The Story of Korean Pop Culture

Tuesdays, 18 April to 23 May 2023. 10.30-13.00. Online.

Watch lecture recordings on demand, available at the end of each day, until Tuesday 4 June 2023.

Overview

Inspired by the V&A exhibition Hallyu! The Korean Wave, this course will explore the meteoric rise of popular culture from South Korea in the past three decades, from its inception to its place on the global stage. This origin story will be illustrated through K-drama and cinema, K-pop and fandoms, and complemented by its cultural impact on the industries of beauty and fashion.

Your course leader

Rosalie Kim is the Lead Curator for Hallyu! The Korean Wave at the V&A. She is also the Curator of the Korean collection in the Asian Department at the V&A since 2012. With a background in architecture and philosophy, her interest lies in the making of contemporary Korean culture, craft and design in the digital age. Prior to the V&A, she worked as an architect in Korea and Europe, and led architectural studios at Kingston University in London.
