I don't know for sure when exactly Durge and Gortash threw in their lot with each other either, but I think it's not at all unreasonable to assume he would've learned about Karlach even if they only joined forces after his treachery. As confirmed by Gortash, the entire plan was pretty much entirely the brain child of Durge and himself, with Thorm being more of a necessary ally. And since said plan required in depth knowledge about the hells, it's quite safe to assume Durge was doing research into this kind of stuff way before they became allies. Thus, it's very likely he would've learned about it if another major player in the Baldurian underworld dabbled in that stuff as well, as Gortash did. If that's how it went down, he likely observed Karlach and Gortash from the shadows, just as depicted above, waiting to see if Gortash would manage to pull off a successful deal with the infernal, and thus be a worthy ally/asset for his own plans. Alternatively, since it IS a bit weird that Durge would still remember Karlachs name after all this time if he'd only ever known her as Gortash's pawn, maybe he DID contact the Chosen of Bane even before that, and might've actually given him the idea for his pact with Zariel. We'll see.

Yeah, it might be something that in game might be represented by an alert message from a companion. "I've been thinking about Wyll's target. I have very few memories from before the Nautiloid, but the name Karlach somehow feels familiar." Though, would Durge have met Karlach? Gortash sold her out ten years ago. I know Durge was murdering people in Baldur's Gate 15 years prior, but I don't think they got together for their Absolute plan until much later. That said, I could imagine Gortash mentioning her in passing.

Since the story is usually told from Tav's perspective, this sudden shift to Durge's POV feels just a little bit weird. No major isue, but the small break in the story thread could've been circumvented with a smaller, less invasive Teletadpole event. Or, of course, by having Tav's and Durges POV alternate more frequently from this point onward, thereby turning this from a break in style to a transition. That aside, it's really bitter to see how happy and carefree Karlach seems to have been before Gortash stabbed her in the back and twisted the knife.
