Extraordinary Attorney Woo Spoiler Thread

With Season 1 coming to an end this week and a Season 2 announced…here is a spoiler thread for those who need to get feelings off their chests!

I’m on episode 12 so I’ll be there soon. Amy finished last night and was losing it lol

I just finished EAW. It was super charming. I already saw ‘spoilers’ on people being disappointed w the ending so I was bracing myself but I was very presently surprised and delighted with it. I agree with a lot of what everyone said about getting to know more of the other characters back story. Felt like a bit of a miss but it also contributed to a more slice of life feel which I’m all for. I wasn’t into the new case of the week flow of each episode but some of the stories charmed me in the end even if it’s still my least favorite part. Acting was fantastic all around. I also loved Spring Sunshine and how good intentioned she is but still comes off very real.

This show killed me in the best possible way! However, I wanted more with Jun Ho...

Hard agree

I finished late last night and am mostly in accordance with all of you. I really wish they hadn’t glossed over the romance and made Jun Ho. I feel like this could have been one season if we got less “in the courtroom” and more character arcs. I wanted to see more of JH why in falling in love and how YWY and he were navigating and deepening their relationship … we started to go there and then the brakes got seriously pumped. By the time we got to sister dinner I was like plot, why you doing this to me? I now require a season 2 to get some of this addressed. Also side note…did not love CEO H hiring YWY to get back at her former college rival (another underdeveloped point). And the dad agreeing? Wtf was that?

I have to agree with everyone I freaking loved this show. That being said. It is Young Woo's journey. And season two would be great if they fleshed out the characters outside the office, and yes I think Young Woo and some little bro time would be amazing. They are both geniuses and share some slight quirks like the gimbap. All in all I can't wait....it will give the writers time to really make a great season.

I (Amy) love what everyone is saying about EAW. Yes, this drama charmed the hell out of me. And yes, I have many quibbles with this drama as well. I think it's a testament to the actors and how lovely they all are that I want to know who they are outside of the courtroom. And I applaud K-dramas for trying to infuse representation of underrepresented characters (we talk about this in our upcoming Itaewon Class pod as well) even if it is clunky rep. BUT, I also hope to see this improve as newer dramas emerge. And I'm grateful for any of you, like Sarah, who have life experience and can speak to these representations and help me (and hopefully anyone listening) get a better understanding of how/why a rep might be good and how/why it might be lacking. Thank you all for your insights on EAW. Here's hoping S2 gives us the depth of character we deserve! (Amy)

I really hope S2 give her a relationship with her brother. There is so much potential here. And agree that I hate western media chasing multiple seasons. I hope that wasn't the intent here and that we can have a satisfying S2 and have our hearts full and happy and be done. (Amy)

I absolutely loved episodes 1-12 and watched them live. Then I went on vacation so I watched the last four in a binge yesterday. While everything wrapped up ok and it was still delightful in many ways, this show did the exact thing I don’t like about American television writers who are chasing multiple seasons. It was rushed and unsatisfactory in order to serve a second season. I love Kdramas because they typically hold such a clean and concise story line. Min woo’s abrupt change made zero sense to me. Same with Soo yeon falling for him based on nearly nothing. Meh. I’m supposed to believe that her mother, Tae Soo mi gave up her political goal because Young Woo said “be a good mom”. Not buying it. There was a surprising amount of time spent on Attorney Jung’s back story for us to get so little of Junho’s. Odd balance of info and character development. All that said, I loved the intro of the little brother. Really wished this had happened around episode 12 instead so we’d gotten more of him. This drama started out a solid 10/10 for me and ended around 8.5.

Saw this clip of the drone light show in Seoul after the show to bring awareness to saving the 🐳s and the ocean https://twitter.com/kdramatreats/status/1560613864253050881?s=21

Beth

I agree I found myself fast forwarding some of the court cases and was more interested in the development of the other characters

Stephanie

I found that toward the second half of the drama I would get less and less interested in the cases they were tackling and the connection that was trying to be made with them... and yearning more for detailed character arcs of others beyond Young Woo, as others have mentioned. I do think that this drama needs a season 2... there is one big lingering gotcha that's just dangling out there (and we all know what that is) that would make for some great drama - if written well!

Krista

Now that the show is wrapped up, I'm officially starting my binge of Attorney Woo so I will come back to this thread - let's go!
