Pachinko Ep 7-Hansuuuuu (spoilers)

Hi all! Amy here. I just finished episode 7 of Pachinko, and I want to know your thoughts. As a big, huge, GINORMOUS Lee Min-ho fan, I love that he got an entire episode to shine and that I was able to learn about the Kanto earthquake of 1923 as well as the aftermath and how that too played a part in the tumultuous history between Japan and Korea.

Thoughts on a brand new origin story for Hansu? As someone who knew while reading the book that Lee Min-ho was playing him in the series, I already had a complicated relationship with his character because of my love for the actor. And now that he's been given a sympathetic backstory? Sheesh. I'm having all sorts of thoughts. How about y'all?

I’m a little late to this party but this was my favorite episode. They gave his story time to breath and it was so complex. I liked a lot of things about this show overall having now finished it, but I wish they’d done more episodes like this one and not jumped time so much. I don’t personally think it served the stories.

There is so much about Pachinko to love. The actors - all fabulous. The lighting & cinematography is outstanding. The story - all of it has been a refreshing treat. I would love to have all of Hansu’s story!

I appreciated episode 7 for all the above reasons, and since I felt Lee MinHo was pretty meh in the first few episodes' appearances, was glad to see better acting on his part and felt interested in his character again. Understanding too that it is a drama about Korea, not a kdrama. But it's already the finale on Friday!! I wonder how long before season 2 is out?

Yes, I love Isak too! But I have to say I am really loving that they are making Hansu a more three dimensional character. They even tied in the pocket watch! And I truly did appreciate learning this extra tidbit of history because I didn't know about the earthquake at all.

I liked it! I appreciated that they also used it as an opportunity to set it in a real historical event (that I hadn't known about before). It seems like they're setting Hansu up to be more of a Heathcliff-life character (super flawed romantic lead) than he was in the books, which is ok with me! I also love Steve Sang-Hyun Noh as Isak SO MUCH (who's also much more attractive than I read him as in the book haha!). I'm good with both developments!
