Weekend Round-Up

What are you watching going into this fine weekend?

I'm on a wicked book deadline (ain't no party like my procrastination party until I have to write all the words in one month). I decided not to commit to another drama for a few days to focus--and then my sister was like please watch Singles Inferno so I can talk to someone about it. What's one episode going to do, I thought.

And damn it! I'm in.

Dating reality television has never been my jam...and for whatever reason this is stupidly compelling. I won't apologize for liking what I like or call anything a guilty pleasure...because no pleasure should ever make us feel guilty (unless that is part of what makes it pleasurable but that's a whole other convo). However, it's. . .a straight up dating show on a desert island with lots of random shirtless exercises happening in the sand. But they also make really good side dishes out of few ingrediants lol.

 I dunno. It's weird. I'm weird. It's 2022 I guess. . . .

Weekend Round-Up

Comments

I’m desperately trying to finish Hotel Del Luna, Her Private Life and Tale of the Nine-Tailed. I’ve been watching them for so long and really want to finish.

Me! Me! Me! (Lia). I seriously LOVE Misaeng and it's in my all-time top-tier of dramas. I was so invested in all the interns plus Sales Team 3 and cheered and cried along the way. Siwan crushed it (but honestly they all did). Manager Oh forever. I'm so glad to hear that you enjoyed it. So many moments stick with me and I'll absolutely rewarch.

Who has watched Misaeng/Incomplete Life? I have just finished it and incredible as I find it to say this about a series with absolutely no romance in it whatsoever (and a really unbalanced cast in terms of male/female) it might just possibly be up there as one of my all time favourites .. well easily in the top 3. It is absorbing, amazing, rewarding and ultimately just the best feeling at the end. Wow. Ps Warning - this series takes time and needs time - don’t press the forward button or put it on 1.5 speed - luxuriate in the slow pace, the drawn out pauses, the reflection. I can easily see that these qualities might make it a total turn off for some!

I liked Live Up to Your Name, too. It has a nice twist, in that the time travel is the opposite of the usual—traveling forward in time, not the reverse. Well, mostly… He is delightful and Kim Ah-joong as the FL is good, too.

Claudia Copeland

Still obsessed with Our Beloved Summer. Watched the first two episodes of Through the Darkness and, as expected, I'm already fully committed to Kim Nam Gil's character. BTW if you haven't seen Live Up to Your Name I recommend it, Kim Nam Gil as a time traveling Joseon era doctor.

Lauren Cohen

Watching Mad for Each Other on Netflix. Just finished Something in the Rain and will probably start Into the Ring too!

Kate

Yes!!! That’s why I wanted to watch it. Through it isn’t a romance I don’t think

Sarah @afternoonaasks

OMG what a choice but HEALER HEALER HEALER HEALER (and we’ll all be here for you when you’ve been melted into a puddle by Ji Chang Wook)

Sarah @afternoonaasks

Ok, I have to decide about staring my next K Drama: Reply 1988 or Healer?

Heather Linebarger

Watching Reset on Viki, a 15 episode Chinese drama bout time loops and an exploding bus. Not romance focused, but the first episode was really intriguing. Zhao Jin Mai is the heroine; she was in a cute little school drama called A Little Thing Called First Love on viki and Netflix. Bai Jing Ting is the hero, and he was in a drama called You Are My Hero.

Jodi Guira

Lololollol. Sad cousin is the best #nainwoo forever. Cheers to drunk watching 🍸

I am still really liking Mr. Queen 2/3 of the way through ❤️ And watching a historical is really clarifying the difference between complicated external plot in historicals vs in modern dramas for me. In historicals, the stakes are necessarily a lot higher. Everything is life or death, not just for oneself, but for one's entire family. Also, people get killed/kill people randomly all the time, so it just seems like the scale of evil actions is kind of flattened? So yeah, I get why people are acting in devious/villainous ways in historicals. In modern dramas, I am like "why would anyone do this? This behavior is so unreasonable/unhinged! No one is going to die, why would you act this way/make these ridiculous choices?" Of course there are exceptions, where I really enjoy the craziness (like when there is a serial killer involved). But I generally don't understand when SML or SFL is a conniving villain. I want to sit them down and say "let ML/FL/your pain go. Clearly you weren't meant to be. You are just further proving how unprepared you are for a healthy relationship by making all these absolutely batshit choices." Lol! I am drunk on so-maek and makgeolli right now, please excuse my rant 😅

Grace

Omg, Come and Hug Me is amazing. You really get Jang Ki-yong's full range in that drama. I love the FL too! And the family story line! And lots of the same themes as Flower of Evil. It really left an impression on me. I hope you enjoy it all the way through 🫂❤️

Grace

I think I’m getting Epik High tix! I’m going alone as no one I know is interested at all…but I keep myself good company lol

Megan Erickson

I'm on episode 21 of Extraordinary You and committed to finishing it, even though the FL is driving me nuts. Also, Woosung announced today that he's going to be the opener for Epik High on their US tour and I have tickets for March. Which is totally unrelated to Kdrama but I've been internally squee-ing since 9am

Elizabeth

I watched Rinko San Wants To Try....quite liked it. Sarah, will def look for Lost on Iqiyi......is that Ryu Joon Yeol from Reply 1988?

LauraPat H

I finished Shopaholic King Louis - super cute - but didn’t need 16 episodes. I’m up to date on Moonshine where Hyeri is in a love triangle but not really cos she’s fallen for Yoo Seungho (damn right) though she’s actually got more chemistry with the SML. Am enjoying. Have now started Come and Hug Me which has made me cry already 😭😭 something about old before their years teens being all mature and grown up really makes me sob. These early episodes with serial killer Dad (not a spoiler is in synopsis) were very Flower of Evil creepy!!! I’m hooked.
