The rabbits are busy these days! Our list of project is getting shorter everyday.
Pino is an old boat, a lot of of the current systems and gear aboard are in need of change.
Devine has been busy learning how to work with raspberry Pi, starting with our weather station. The goal is to start small, to then work our way up to more complex projects. If you're interested in this stuff, check out Pomoroni. We are trying to figure out a way to make a cheap diy AIS, we are not sure if this is a reliable option. For now, we are experimenting with it, we'll let you know if we figure it out!
We have replaced Pino's engine control cables, the ones we had were very old - one was partly severed and rusty. Next, because we removed the wheel, we need to re-route the cables to install a new throttle control lever - uff! We're also almost done re-installing the top hatch, funny to think that neither of us had ever picked up a hammer before we started sailing. Goes to show, you can do anything, and that youtube is a wonderful teacher.
Our current mainsail is too old, too thin, it suffered some damage before AND it doesn't have enough reefs (having more reefs means we can make the sail even smaller in big winds). This sail has served us well, but it's time we replace it.
What is a sailboat without a proper set of wings?
The sailmakers in Whangarei are really nice, and allowed us to take footage of part of the process. Expect that in the next video.
We are also getting ready to travel to Wellington, where Devine will speak at the Play by Play conference about digital nomadism. Rekka will be there and will film the entire talk for you guys to watch! Maybe we can release this as a capsule?
That's all for now!
Best
