On a cold and grey morning, we boarded the ferry to Vancouver island with our bikes and luggage.
Both of us took note of all of the islands on the way, neither of us really understood what life on the water was like then. We knew little of winds and current. The rise and fall of tides we knew had something to do with the moon, but that's it. Our knowledge of the nautical world was pieced together from books, youtube videos and movies. We made it to North Saanich and moved onto Pino, you know how the rest goes.
All this happened one year ago, this is our one year liveaboard anniversary.
Now, when we're on land, we can't help but pay attention to shifts in the wind. It feels like having a 6th sense. Sometimes we'll stop to try and guess how strong the wind is, 'ummm... 15 kts maybe? 15 kts out of the north east!'. We pay more attention to wildlife, to plants on the ground too.
Maybe it's just us getting older, or maybe it's because we're spending a lot more time outside. Either way, we've learned a lot of stuff this past year. Can't wait to see what sort of challenges we'll encounter next.
Here's to another year on Pino!
