We spend a lot of time thinking about how we will optimize our lives as live-aboards. One important thing to consider is trash, we aim to produce as little of it as possible.
This week we made our first zero-waste purchases, such as compostable bamboo toothbrushes and a durable pot scrubber (instead of using sponges). We plan to get most of our food in bulk, and to keep it in glass jars. In an effort to buy even less unnecessary products, we will be making our own toiletry and cleaning products. This reduces costs significantly, is healthier and produces a lot less waste.
We plan to document this part of the adventure as well, we'll be sharing what we buy and make via google docs.
To know more about the zero-waste movement check out Trash is for tossers. Our first purchases were inspired by their list of alternatives.
As always, thank you for keeping us afloat, literally.
