2025-06-12 12:20:25 +0000 UTCFor the hunting bit at the end, I will start by obviously saying: There is a reason why hunters are legally required to wear fluorescent orange while hunting (if you live in a sane country at least). Deer eyes don't see colours in the same way, camouflage is mostly just hiding you from humans, and the effects of fluorescent vibrant colours are mostly lost on a deer. You can walk out there in a full ghillie or bright as the sun, the ghillie will genuinely draw more attention from deer because of the increase of your silhouette. In this scene, the shooter is at least far enough away from the deer that we not only can't see them, there isn't even a clear idea in frame of where they could be, just a wall of thick brush and a general direction. Carl is on the complete opposite side of the deer from the shooter. It might seem ridiculous for the shooter not to see Carl, but that's imagining the shooter sees a perfectly focused & zoomed camera shot of the movie set through a perfect clearing of trees with the whole deer and Carl's full body behind it. This happens in video games and films, not nature. Averages factored, the shooter is probably looking at a completely over-zoomed fisheye labyrinth of unfocused trees with the tiniest blob of deer colour in there, and some of the most common rifle cartridges for hunting would absolutely hit the deer, Carl, and someone else behind Carl too

Rick knew this: Her remains COULD be inside of it (fresh blood), and if they ARE, and we leave it unchecked, we'll be searching all over the woods for a long time, when the proof of what happened would have just been there the whole time. That just wasn't a chance he could take.
