What about FirstUp? They allow for customizable communication apps that are not exactly social media, it’s usually for employees but no reason it can’t work for RHAP https://firstup.io/

Another podcast I listen to that’s become more of a community that does meetups and has reading groups moved from a private fb group to an app called Geneva. It shares similarities to Discord but is easier to use. The one drawback is that it’s not an app that everyone already has, but that’s sort of also the strength— the issue that you’re describing is that the apps everyone already has are just not the right fit. I can tell you that everyone from the other podcast community ended up really happy there once the dust settled from the jump.

yeah I guess if the page looks like ancient tech that could put people off. A question might be, functionally, how your vision differs from a web forum, and if it doesn't substantially differ, what you could do to avoid that dated kind of vibe. Obviously I'd throw my vote at just embracing a throwback venue, what's old is new again and all that, and I know I'd use it a lot. It just works. Older people might appreciate it and younger people might not even know it's old tech?

I don’t disagree, I am just looking for the 2020s version of a forum. Still looking for the right solution

Rob, hearing you searching for a new kind of community and, as you yourself point out, you're literally describing a forum! I'm not that far from your age so I know it's very web 1.0 but I really think social media has never topped the community message board. You can have a patron section, a non-patron section, and so subforums for all the different shows and topics, different threads for different episodes or discussions, etc... SUCH a better venue for communication than Facebook posts and comments. You can actually just throw up a one-click install of free forum software too, like SMF, which I used and customized to run a Survivor ORG. Everything is easy and customizable. While I always loved the patron call in shows Ask Rob anything is becoming a favorite format of mine. The comment section is always fun and patrons that call in always bring it and are interesting. Rob is always great at leading a conversation too. I forget to say it when I am on most times but I encourage new callers to come on these podcasts. Even just to say hello. If you are nervous I totally get that too. It helps writing down talking points and or questions. Once you call in once it becomes pretty addictive
