In the last of a three-part subseries on Return to Oz and the history of Oz programming, Brett dissects the 1985 children’s movie in minute detail, pointing out a vast array of Monarch tropes and showing how the entire plot is a coded depiction of Monarch mind control techniques designed to generate alter personalities through drug- and electroshock-induced dissociation and fantasy manipulation. Comparing the movie closely with the source material from L. Frank Baum’s Oz series, he explains how the filmmakers mined these occult-inspired children’s books for mind control metaphors, precisely the way survivors allege the world of Oz is used in Monarch programming. The episode also contains an extensive discussion of the film’s references to cybernetics and of how its seemingly anachronistic use of electroshock deliberately links themes of mind control, the occult, and elite-sponsored fringe science.
