GJ-bu game progress! + other plans

Hello! I have some progress and plans to share!

Paper GJ-bu

I finished my work early last month in order to play Super Mario Odyssey when it came out... but it was only delivered on the following Monday, so I had some free time over the weekend.

In an effort to start finishing off the many projects I've had ideas for (or at least advancing them to a good place to stop), I decided to get the GJ-bu game (lovingly named Paper GJ-bu for now) to a playable state.

There was a lot to do, including finishing coding the movements, doing all the animation programming, and then drawing the rear view sprite (and redrawing the front view to match it better). The character system I have right now is made so that I can make different characters just by dropping new assets in! There's still some stuff to set up like different character heights, but the general idea is there. I'm excited to try it out with other characters.

Once I have more characters drawn, a nicer looking level and maybe simple NPCs set up, I think I want to release some kind of demo so people can walk around and see how it plays. But that's later, because for now I have to address some other stuff first.

Some other stuff

In the order that I want to work on them:

1. As I mentioned like half a year ago, the storyboards for the first chapter of one of my short stories is finished, so I want to finalize and release that this month.

They're probably still too detailed for what should be sketches, but I think the next ones will be better. I hope so, anyway. Need more practice!

2. There's yet another game I started that I want to make progress on and hopefully finish before getting back to the GJ-bu game in earnest. I don't have any particularly nice screenshots of it yet, but it's 3D and Love Live!-related. Here's where it's at so far (using a box as a placeholder character):

It's designed as an Android game and touch controls are currently working, though I have keyboard & mouse set up for testing, like here.

Those are the main things that I can think of right now, all in addition to the regular Patreon illustrations. Is this an illustration or comics Patreon? A game development Patreon? Who knows.
