In 2017, a comedian named Hari Kondabolu made a documentary about growing up in America feeling the stereotype that Apu created in US culture. Due to this film, the character was removed from the show as opposed to being recast. The character Apu is of Indian (from India) descent. I'm not sure how he relates to the Disney film Aladdin, other than Agrabah having a building that resembles the Taj Mahal. There is a character in Aladdin named "Abu". Maybe that was confusing you all. Mr. Hanky blaming Ambien for his tweets is also a reference to Roseanne Barr being canceled and losing her show on CBS for the same event.
