2024-04-08 16:31:59 +0000 UTCI met him a long time ago at the berrics so I'm probably biased, but I don't think he's sucking up to people, I think he's just trying to be nice and is nonconfrontational similar to the guys at the 9 club. As far as the terminology he uses, I don't think it's any different from skaters using slang. After a while you forget that not everyone knows what these terms mean. I had to explain to my parents once that when I said I "ate shit yesterday" I just meant I fell really hard. I get that the golf stuff is corny in skateboarding, but the guy isn't in skateboarding anymore. It'd be different if he was trying to play both worlds but he's really just full on real estate and barely even mentions skating anymore. Not trying to glaze I just genuinely hate seeing pros I looked up to get stuck working terrible jobs because they never invested their money and I'm glad someone like Mikey is at least putting information out there. If people can see that someone from the same community was able to do it perhaps that will make it feel more obtainable for them as well.

It's also ironic that he justifies skaters not being paid as much as company employees because they "can get shoe sponsors" which are almost always massive corporations who also only care about money.

You have to be an accredited investor to invest with Mikey, meaning you make 200k/ year or have a net worth over $1 million not including your house. Most people are never going to meet that criteria yet they can still benefit tremendously from his advice. He gives great financial advice that 99% of skateboarders (and most people in general) wouldn't hear otherwise. The same goes for mindset. Most people never start saving or investing because they don't think they can. In reality, it's just like skating- start small, and work your way up. You're also focusing on Mikeys yt when it's his least active platform. He mostly posts on tiktok and IG and his posts do really well there because there's clearly an audience. It seems super hypocritical for everyone to complain when skaters go broke at 32 but when there's people from the community giving good advice they get made fun of. I say this as a lifelong skateboarder/financial advisor who hates seeing pros become Uber drivers and work in warehouses.

Regarding the topic "is skateboarding doing well or not" you can find reports about it, but a quick source of research is checking how much "skateboarding" was searched on Google Trends: - 2004 and before: skateboarding's peak, this becomes the 100% standard - 2005-2010: massive decline, staying at 28% of it's peak - 2011-2016: another decline, staying at 10% of it's peak - 2017-2022: slow decline, staying around 6% of it's peak - 2023-Now: the chart flatten at 5% of it's peak, the worst numbers in history Disclaimer: this is not totally accurate regarding money/investment, but fun to try because it shows how something is popular throughout time, which helps to find patterns regarding number of users and sales.
