For those that have heard the Beatrice and Berle stuff before I wanted to disguise my segments in a tier list video so I wouldn’t have to bomb YouTube with some edgy bullshit thumbnails/ video titles. That’s part of why I’ve never put this stuff on YouTube, but it seems like it just threw the whole tier list format out of wack. Anyway sorry for the messy upload it’s not a finished video and I’ll have something more fleshed out in the next few days. I think if I wanna do a public Berle/ Beatrice video I’ll just have to commit to going for it and not hide my opinions in a tier list.

She has had knee surgery, from what I can see on Instagram, and that's put her out for a bit. Also, Beatrice's come up into the skate limelight as a black woman has likely required work that maybe isn't as apparent or traditionally recognizable? To her, it might have indeed taken significant effort to put herself out there, overcome stigma, feel comfortable to even go the skatepark consistently enough to learn 50-50 front shuvs, etc. So then of course she would feel deserving, right? Because she put in work/effort, even if it doesn't look like what we are accustomed to in skateboarding. Idk--I know it is conjecture, but so is the video. Colourism is a thing and Beatrice has a skin tone, hair texture and facial phenotype that is, as far as I can bring to mind, not represented in women’s skateboarding yet. We need as wide a spectrum of people as possible and Beatrice broadens that scope. Nyjah and Tyshawn represent and inspire different groups of skaters, and it’s not just because of the leggings.

Isn’t there any other dark skinned Black girls skating to serve as a role model? And I come to the uncomfortable conclusion that there doesn’t seem to be. So, I think what we’re buying with Beatrice is actually hope for the future. Hope that some little girl sees that graphic with her in braids and grows up to be the dedicated, accomplished skateboarder that we’re all looking for. Beatrice is a place holder, a means to an end. I don’t love it or her, but I’ll hold my nose and back her for the time being.

She definitely had the affected body movements on the board like the rest, but the further analysis being in the same video is cool as it is also fake steez. It was a good Beatrice segment in its own right. You could keep her in the tier list portion talking about her physical affectations on the board and have a separate vid for the Beatrice deep dive. I liked this version though, it does all fit, it’s a nice, long, enjoyable GH vid. Lots of comedy and you let it out about Beatrice, I like when you get fired up and passionate like that. 👍

You can even organize it in a similar way by distinguishing the more acceptable forms from the worse ones.

2023-03-23 21:19:10 +0000 UTCMy opinion on Beatrice is I fully endorse her being pro with basically only being able to ride a board, do a very limited amount of repetitive tricks and then take a photo to show she is a skater. I believe all her coverage will lead to a huge boom in black women riding/buying skateboards who didnt feel like theyd fit in in skating because they didnt see anyone that looks like them making a career out of it. What I dont like is the false narrative of a “deserved” pro skater that all the articles you cited were pushing and that Beatrice is feeding into. I think Its ok for her to influence skateboarders in a different way than the traditional route but its annoying that everyone is acting like she took the “traditional” route and thats why shes pro.

I think this is as good a way as any, especially since you're throwing a few exciting curveballs like Dustin Henry and the child actor. Might be an idea to either slim it down and trim some fat (tfunk, shredmaster keith didn't add much) and also shorten the berle and Beatrice section - those are both longer than they need to be and at times plain redundant. OR go even bigger and add a few more heretical shockers. My top pick for who I'd like to see on that list and watch utter pandemonium unfold in the comments: Heath Kirchart. Some of those rollaways in the Mind Field part are egregious but also it's my favourite part of all times and I like it when you destroy my heroes. Go put this out on Youtube and become the demon you were always meant to be.

2023-03-23 12:44:15 +0000 UTChaven't watched yet but i wonder if there might not be a more interesting story to tell about beatrice and berle besides the low-hanging fruit of fake steeze. i think they both represent a decline of FA such that the most interesting thing that can be said about the brand is that the "team" is washed (louie and hockey notwithstanding) and somehow a joke. Dylan worship only goes so far and failure to adapt to changing trends in skating viz a viz representation (is beatrice really the best or only woman they could get?) has really left them so stagnant as a brand. FA would have no A-list skaters left if Louie were to jump ship...and the only skaters putting in any kind of work are on hockey
