Inner Circle Update for October 26 2017!

Hey guys!

I'm making this a very brief post due to all the ongoing craziness, but do expect a much more in depth one in a couple of days.

I wanted to show off our progress on the new Malise, and I figured this would be enough to digest and discuss for one post :D. You can check out a high res version of the above image here.

EDIT: I just added another image, rendered more from the side.

First, let me point out that she's not complete yet. She's far enough along though to get the gist of where we're going. Unlike Neon, Malise has been completely recreated using the Genesis 3 body system. I started by figuring out a technique for transferring her old face to the new geometry, and then started reworking it from there. Her body's shape has been completely revamped, and she has all new textures. The most obvious change besides the suit is probably the hair. It's a new model that I carefully edited to get the vibe of the old one, but with some class. And yeah, we've changed the hair color some since the old one simply looked really strange in this new style.

Now for the suit! This is an entirely new suit made from a customized Genesis 3 asset that we've put a lot of work into to resemble the style of the old one. After getting the materials to look approximately how we want them, TK and I deconstructed the suit by adding a working zipper, and then generated a bunch of new morphs to make that lovely cleavage compatible with Genesis 3's pose-able tatas. Having a custom-rigged model means we can do a lot more with it, so we will be attempting to do armor damage entirely in 3D with this one (as opposed to painting it by hand). That's for another post though :D.

Lastly, Malise will still be packing two guns (which you'll see in our next post in a couple of days). We simply need to finish up with any changes to this holster before we mirror it over.

Like I said, I'd keep it brief! I'm sure that some won't like all aspects of the change, but hopefully the overall improvement in quality makes it bearable :D. Let me know what you think! I'm guessing there'll be lots of feedback on this one.

Totally get you on the belt. Sounds like (unsurprisingly) you have good reason for abandoning it, and this is the better way to go. I really like the new shades (as I mentioned in reply to the more recent IC update). I think their big, shiny redness gives Malise back a lot of visual presence and draw. From a comparison standpoint, I definitely like the glasses better than any of the proposed alternatives. I find their design more sleek, and I really like the ruby color. The blade style feels very late-eighties cyberpunk to me. If you wanted to change them, it's possible different styles of sunglasses could work similarly well, but in my personal opinion, sunglasses are superior to non-sunglasses for Malise's headgear with this outfit.

Since a belt is more trouble than it's worth, how about adding hoops on the suit to attach to the holsters to help hold them up? Some metal/composite hoops between the translucent panels a belt would've rode and a piece of webbing running down to the holsters. Worse comes to worst, they'd make decent restraint points.

Those look like ski goggles, definitely need something a bit more sleek.

argh, this web2.0 interface hates me... was saying... you don't have to match the same of her face to the frames as she never wears them. Can pretty much go for anything but as before if the lenses share the color of the stitching it fits :)

Venus

I think UBER's onto something here... those are sleeping masks. To be honest you could get away with anything since she never wears them and you don't have to match face to frame. Oakley's have-some pretty rad designs https://www.google.com/search?q=oakley+steel+frame+ladies+sunglasses&client=firefox-b&tbm=isch&tbs=rimg:CR2kiBipxR4GIjg38DuLclpE-wbuGJHDqCqk-18NmT0X1EP2azOMhLGBKeKkB2SauZKQcVJ7GeBrnQTdGkSrSbhS6yoSCTfwO4tyWkT7ESkPWXpAKukBKhIJBu4YkcOoKqQRZkPnL_11cuYkqEgn7Xw2ZPRfUQxEOsyurqe4PeioSCfZrM4yEsYEpEaEQCgw31rT5KhIJ4qQHZJq5kpARM_1Vim4RP7PQqEglxUnsZ4GudBBEeiOxTw-2W5yoSCd0aRKtJuFLrEUObSNGXbK4P&tbo=u&sa=X&ved=0ahUKEwjEo7j-5ZLXAhUG6RQKHdPHBggQ9C8IHw&biw=1680&bih=951&dpr=1

At the moment I'm not really in love with the belt idea. Firstly it's one of the most complicated things to rig correctly for weird poses, which is something I took too lightly the first time around when designing these characters. For the old Malise, deformities occurring in her belt and connected holsters would sometimes be a reason I'd forfeit an idea for an H scene pose (you'll notice it's missing from her old Stage 3 outfit :D). I also think it might break her new form from a design standpoint. Characters I've based this body design off of include Ann from Persona 5, Widowmaker from Overwatch and Zero Suit Samus -- none of which sport a belt (both Widowmaker and Samus actually can be seen sporting a similar thigh holster). In other news, a couple people have echoed my thoughts on the need for new glasses or a replacement hair ornament. We're curious what you guys think of this idea as a replacement for Malise's old glasses. Ubercharge really doesn't like them and wants to make some alternatives :D. What do you guys think? Sorry for the low quality renders. https://i.imgur.com/A7NU8Ly.jpg

Can't seem to post large posts for some reason. pm'in you instead :) Love this update :D

How about a V-shape belt that fits between those translucent panels on her hips, sides and lower back while cupping the belly up front and not blocking zipper access? Not tactical/practical mind you.

Will definitely have to see this in action before I can form a real opinion, but at a quick glance, I really like the new look. I loved the old Malise, and this definitely carries forward many of the things that appealed about her design from the beginning, while bringing its own new flare. The quality improvement is also very impressive. I agree with some of the folks above that a belt would be a nice costume element to see, if it's feasible to bring back. It was great for accentuating her hips on the original model and breaking up the lines of the skintight bodysuit to give more visual complexity. I also want to say that I like the new hair, but feel that it could use more volume or character to give her a greater visual presence and fit the cyberpunk motif. It might be that something as simple as a longer ponytail or thicker bangs could do it. Otherwise, some sort of hairband or ornament could work to draw the eye and create that sense. Regardless, truly impressive work as always. Thank you for all that you do.

Really love the new Malise, good job :D

Piggybacking off a few of what the others have said, I think Malise's expression is crazy well improved; the other looked slightly more exaggerated in terms of the eyebrows/aloof and just generally had a very... fake? Expression. Not the art, mind you. She's got her somewhat more serious look due to her backstory it feels while having slightly less aloofness, which looks great. The hair... well. The hair is a good thing so far vs the old. I think that secondary bun is a bit too big or needs to be about halfway down her head. I'm compelled to go look at some of the professional hair stuff I have access to via my cosmo-based family members.

Aryn

Looks good! I hope modelling the combat damage works out well, it'll save you guys a ton of time on different poses!

Add that belt, move the top holster strap to less of an angle so it's biting into that sweet spot between the glute and hamstring, or do away with it and have only the lower strap plus the belt.

Popped off another render since I had to go out for a bit. More from the side: https://i.imgur.com/MchkqiI.png

Also, looking at the image again, I feel like she needs a belt that goes up and around her waist for the holster. Though you can just take that as some realism advice from someone who has worn a thigh holster before, I also suggest it because I think it would be a bonus detail that would look pretty good while in various states of undress. Accentuate the booty with a belt, is what I'm saying.

PhatsM

Looks really good, but I'd like to second the suit needing more transparency. Maybe another suit made further down the line, much more similar to the original suit design as a compromise? The hair... overall is good, but the ponytail seems off? Maybe too wispy at the end, but like you said, she's not even fully completed here, so take that criticism with a grain of salt, as this isn't even the final product.

Somnovox

I love how she turned out here, she looks awesome and hawt... I can't wait to see more of this!!!

dudman

I'd say it looks splendid! to me. =)

same here, the pony to take a little getting used to. It makes the face looks a bit small. But the rest looks very nice!

I don't know how I feel about the new hair, especially head on, but I love everything else about her new suit and look.
