The Incubus System Chapter 1159. I’m Not Blind

The Incubus System Chapter 1159. I’m Not Blind

Her body went rigid beside me, her hand involuntarily slipping away from mine. I didn't miss the subtle movement of her fingers twitching towards the small blade hidden beneath the couch cushion—a typical hunter precaution.

My sharp eyesight picked up every nuance, every defensive reaction. It was strange how natural this all felt. How comfortable. Like I'd finally dropped the mask I'd worn for too long.

Tiffany's eyes narrowed, her voice edged with sudden caution. “You…you know I'm a demon hunter?”

I leaned back casually, crossing one ankle over my knee. My gaze never left hers. “Of course I know. Did you really think you could hide something like that from me forever?”

Her eyes flashed with suspicion. “Who told you? Was it the association? Ruby? Emma, maybe? Or… Larry?”

I shook my head slowly, deliberately. “No. None of them.”

“Then how?” she demanded, voice tight. Her muscles tensed, ready to move if things escalated. “Explain it, Ethan.”

I smirked slightly. “I know because I’m not blind, Tiffany,” I drawled, my voice calm yet dripping with quiet authority.

She stared at me, expression unreadable now, her guard firmly up.

“So what exactly are you saying? You're telling me you’ve figured all this out on your own, but you’re not with the hunters, not a demon, but…?” She trailed off, confusion clearly clouding her features.

I chuckled, low and slightly bitter. “See, Tiff, that’s the thing. You got one part wrong.”

Her eyebrows rose slightly, questioning.

“The ‘not a demon’ part,” I said softly, eyes sharpening further.

My voice was barely more than a whisper. “That’s where you’re mistaken.”

Her breath hitched sharply, eyes widening fully as realization crashed over her.

For a moment, she said nothing, the silence stretching painfully long. Her fingers clenched tightly at her sides, eyes darting over me, reassessing everything she’d ever known.

“You…you’re not joking.” Her voice trembled, disbelief clear. “You’re really a…demon?”

“Yep.” My reply was short, almost casual.“Not just any demon, either. But hey, details can wait.”

Her expression shifted quickly from shock to disbelief. She moved away slightly, creating distance between us on the couch. “And you waited until now to tell me this?”

I sighed softly, my demonic side still thrumming with restrained energy. “Believe me, Tiff, I wanted to tell you sooner. But this isn’t exactly an easy conversation to have.”

Tiffany’s eyes narrowed further, her body posture tensed and guarded. Her fingers twitched almost imperceptibly toward the edge of the couch cushion, where I knew she kept her hunter’s blade. “Because I’m a demon hunter?” she asked stiffly, her voice sharper than usual, defensive walls quickly coming up.

“No.” I shook my head slowly, keeping my voice calm. “Because you're a human.”

She blinked in confusion.

Before she could fully react, I flickered, teleporting right next to her in a blink—literally. It probably wasn’t the smartest move, but I needed her attention. Our faces were suddenly inches apart, close enough that I could see every fleck of color in her widening eyes.

“What the—!” She jerked backward, her hand shooting toward the concealed knife beneath the cushion. But I was faster. My hand darted out, fingers wrapping around her wrist firmly but gently, stopping her mid-grab. Her pulse hammered rapidly beneath my fingertips.

“Hey, easy there,” I said quickly, offering my most disarming smile—which, admittedly, probably looked more cocky than reassuring at this point. “I just want to talk.”

She glared, clearly unconvinced, breathing heavily. “You teleport in my face and tell me you’re a demon, and you just want to talk? Ethan, seriously?”

“Okay, fine. Not my smoothest moment.” I chuckled sheepishly. “But come on, hear me out. I don’t exactly go around advertising this.”

She arched a skeptical eyebrow. “Then why tell me at all?”

I sighed dramatically, letting go of her wrist, carefully backing off a few inches so she could breathe properly again. “Because you’re important. You’re in my inner circle, Tiff. Believe it or not, I don’t tell everyone I’m a demon. Mostly just people I trust. Or people I have to trust because of… you know, political reasons.”

She rubbed her wrist, glaring half-heartedly. “Political reasons?”

“Yeah,” I shrugged lightly. “Being a demon lord isn’t exactly all fiery brimstone and conquering worlds, you know.”

Tiffany’s scowl deepened, clearly not appreciating my attempt at comedy. “You're not funny.”

“Little funny?” I offered hopefully.

She rolled her eyes dramatically but relaxed slightly, shoulders dropping just a fraction. “Not at all.”

“Fine, humor isn’t working,” I conceded with exaggerated despair. “Look, I’m telling you because… well, you’re my step-sis. I care about you. And I’m pretty sure you have feelings for me—”

Her face instantly reddened. “Whoa, hold on. Who said I have feelings for you?”

“Oh, come on.” I snorted, leaning back confidently. “You always kiss random people just because they pay for your lunch and listen to your problems?”

She opened her mouth, closed it, and glared at me. Her cheeks were burning bright pink. “I… I was grateful.”

“Sure,” I drawled, grinning smugly. “Keep telling yourself that.”

She folded her arms stubbornly, chin lifted defiantly. “Maybe I just felt sorry for you.”

“Ouch,” I laughed, placing a hand dramatically over my chest. “Straight for the heart, Tiff. That’s cold.”

She gave me a flat stare, clearly fighting the amused twitch at the corner of her mouth. “Don’t change the subject. You’re a demon. I hunt demons. Why the heck should I believe anything you say right now?”

I leaned forward again, expression turning serious despite the humor still lingering in my voice. “Because I’ve never lied about caring for you. You know that.”

She hesitated, eyes wavering slightly. “Fine. Say I believe you. How do I know you’re not dangerous? That you won’t hurt me—or anyone else?”

“Because I won’t,” I said firmly, gaze steady. “I’ve got better things to do than running around causing chaos and destruction. Also, I’m literally hunting demons. It helps demon hunters, right? Though I never really considered them allies.”

She blinked, incredulous. “Wait. You’re joking about this?”
