S5 EP4: DISSONANCE (1/2)
Added 2024-01-16 12:09:18 +0000 UTC

Thank you for your patience! This episode, as I've previously mentioned, MAY become the new episode 3, pushing back the previously published episode with Seaglass into EP 4 territory, because I feel it might be a good precursor for Steven and CG's fight. I'm sure you can guess why.
That being said, I'm very much open to hearing your take on it! (It will probably be better once the second part is done.)
EDIT: Keeping the episode lineup as is! this is officially episode 4.
You know Jasper here actually reminds me of some ideas I’ve looked into in light of the Jack Horner vs Steven Universe meme. I actually have thought about Jasper’s argument from the original series and she’s right at least about Steven. Steven is a terrible negotiator and he’s never convinced anyone of properly sound mind. Lapis spent 5000 years trapped and cracked and suffered from mental issues all throughout the series. Peridot didn’t have a choice it was either join the crystal gems or die not exactly an equal playing field. Bismuth was the closest but what convinced her to cool it was the revelation about Rose and Pink realistically anyone could have told her that also she had just seen her friend imprisoned and transformed still not a great place mentally. Spinel has enough mental issues to fill an entire care facility. The diamonds only like him for his gem and we all know it. This doesn’t make him bad because he used these states to help them become better people but let it be known Jasper wasn’t wrong.

I'm so excited to see what you have planned! The change in character attitudes, the tension that stirring, and the conflict that I know is going to happen!

Whether it was Rose showing a little bit of anxiety, or for the past couple episodes we've been witnessing Steven using his mind manipulation so casually, idk. I have a feeling something bad is about to happen and it is not going to end well 😕 (Sorry this comment was so long!)

Jasper's response is no surprise really. I mean she hated Earth even in the Canon version and made the similar argument there too. The difference is, her views of earth never really changed though her view of Steven had. She doesn't know he's a diamond here either but the second she does she'll change her tune probably. Idk why but I feel like her changing her views will come at a cost here. I have a feeling something bad is going to happen 😟

Jasper has been pretty clear about the fact that even the Cluster is above her paygrade, to be fair. They don't expect her to know much.

I'm actually wondering why the crystal gems aren't questioning Jasper about what's advanced in the last 5k years to get a clue about what Steven might be. We know it was likely White's personal choice, but they don't

Oh she doesn't know he's a diamond

I have a bad feeling about steven just casually controlling jasper rn like it's no biggie

Jasper has been let out of her time out and has decided she's too cool for summer camp.

I think making the episode switch will work with the opening here! Steven talking about how this mission will be too dangerous leads very well to the ask about Seaglass' weapon and the connection of "learning to summon a weapon = I can go on dangerous missions and fight". Especially if the ending of Part 2 of this episode has something of Seaglass being discontent over "missing the action".

I know this unlikely, but pull the Future and fight her. With respect, put Jasper in her place

I think that's the issue I'm having - they can go in either order! It's very confusing to me. And I wrote it! 😅
And thank you haha. I'm sure once she actually learns to listen to people she'll be quite shocked!

Honestly, I thought the talk with CG was meant to be a follow-up to the previous episodes. Showing that she is now going on missions, just within reason.
Also, loving Jasper guessing what gem Steven is. I can’t wait for her reaction when he tells her what the current running theory is there.

i think the two episodes are pretty interchangeable honestly
this episode does show steven trusting cg to handle herself a *little* more but then again im not that good at analysis :p
also poor steven, having to deal with jasper alone on a mission 😭
