State of the Author, July 2025

At least this month I know why I’m posting late!

Time certainly seems to fly, but I spent the last two weeks in the United Kingdom visiting friends and family and taking a desperately needed vacation. It was a bit of a hectic trip, with us visiting Edinburgh, Cornwall and London over two weeks.

It was a good trip, including a stopover at Warhammer World (where we saw a lot of dioramas, though there were fewer history displays than I would have liked, and spent a lot of money on plastic).

Back on the ground in Calgary now and getting my feet under me on the backlog of admin, including this post!

What am I working on?

I finished Adept’s Path, the new Teer and Kard novel, before leaving for England. I’m currently prepping to take on Shadow of Mars, Starship’s Mage 18, which is being weirdly intimidating.

With book seventeen, The Lies Arcana, launching on the twenty-fourth, I can’t fall too far behind on Shadow. I really prefer to have the next book in a series done before I launch the current one, but I am not quite far enough ahead on my schedule at the moment. I want to blame the six books per year instead of eight, but it might also be down to only having two major ongoing series at the moment.

That’s probably going to become three, but since I don’t have to decide on whether Seekers in the Void will get to be book one of Saints of the Void until November, I’m still being indecisive.

Overall, everything is in a very good place. The Kickstarter is almost complete and the e-Void Spheres ebooks will go out to backers this coming week. Patreon release will be in August and I think broad release for sale will be this fall sometime.

Tying back to last month, we watched the Murderbot finale Friday night, and we absolutely adored it. The team did an extraordinary job of translating a difficult property to television and I’m so glad to hear it’s been renewed for a second season.

Happy reading folks!

I'll say that I didn't find Seekers in the Void to be that captivating but given your solid track record I would try a second book. I just didn't find it grabbed me like the first book in your other series. I am a huge fan of most of your other series so I was kind of surprised by my disinterest. Ideally I would like to see another book in the Duchy of Terra universe. I loved how rich and complex that universe was and all the world building you did. Maybe something set in the same universe but with a completely different cast and in a different corner of the galaxy.

I vote for you to do "Saints of the Void"
