State of the Author, February 2025
Added 2025-02-02 22:15:00 +0000 UTCHey everyone,
I hope you all enjoyed Chimera’s Fall!
Since Patreon has forced me into charging monthly, I feel obliged to come up with something to put up here on a monthly basis.
So, going forward, I’m going to try to put up an update on where things are at in terms of what I’m working on and what’s coming up.
What am I working on?
I have just finished Seekers in the Void, a tentatively standalone novel about a merchant ship hired for a xenoarcheological expedition and all of the trouble that goes along with that. I’d like to write a sequel to this one, but I’m going to hold off and see how it sells.
That means that right now, I’m catching up on administration (like taxes) and bouncing emails back and forth with the narrator for The Valkyrie Stratagem.
I also have putting together the cover typography for The Valkyrie Stratagem on my immediate to-do list.
Once I’ve caught up on those admin tasks, I’ll be diving into the outline for The Lies Arcana, the next Starship’s Mage novel, with the intent of getting going on that by February 10.
The other big item on my plate is the Void Spheres Kickstarter, which Jack’s illness has left me badly behind on. I’ll be ploughing through the last bits of the surveys there this week and hope to have that moving by the time I start on The Lies Arcana.
Outside of the very specific work items, I’m keeping an eye on the state of the world and considering what I need to do to manage my own risk. Right off the bat, that’s probably going to see me moving a couple of books out of Kindle Unlimited to make them available on other platforms. My business and my living are pretty dependent on the modern world of free trade and free communication, so the announcements this weekend are striking pretty close to home. Starting to move a larger portion of my catalog to less-USA-focused platforms seems a necessary step, though it's going to take some careful balancing.
Otherwise? I’m painting up squads for Warhammer 40K Kill Teams and assembling pieces for a Dark Angels successor chapter. I already have an Imperial Guard army, that I’m taking into a tournament later this month.
And that’s where I’m at for February, 2025. I have a small piece I’m going to put up on here tomorrow, but otherwise, you’ll next hear from me in March as we begin the run up to The Valkyrie Stratagem ARC.
Happy reading everyone,
-Glynn Stewart

I'm keeping my Kindle paperwhite for authors who cannot easily move from Amazon, but the future is clearly in escaping it.

2025-02-28 13:52:30 +0000 UTCWhile I understand the distaste many people feel for Amazon, the truth is that they retain the overwhelming majority of all ebook and audiobook readers. Beyond that, the majority of my audiobooks are done through a publisher (Podium). I have no control over where those books are distributed and also can't sell them myself. There are no changes planned for the audiobooks anytime soon, sorry.

2025-02-07 16:42:46 +0000 UTCAny plans on moving audiobooks away from Audible? That's the only thing stopping me from deleting my Amazon account at this point. Or having a higher tier patreon plan that does audiobook pre-releases in a usable format.
