About Void Spheres
Dragons, prophecy, and sailing ships... in space! When he heeded the call of a powerful archmage and hired the only crew desperate enough to follow him into the void, disgraced elvar captain Cat Greentrees didn't realize that it would turn his worldview on its head. Widely reviled and viewed as criminals, his new crew of gobvar—an entire small clan led by a young shaman—quickly proved itself the equal to any crew Cat led in the navy.
Prophecy dogs their heels and the draconic threat that lies sleeping along their nation's borders is about to wake. If the three unlikely heroes—Captain, Archmage, and Shaman—can't determine the source of the vision driving their quest, everything they seek to save may be lost.
Stealing a void ship out from under the nose of an enemy that will hunt them to the ends of the spheres, Cat and his crew emerge from the void strait into a barren sphere that has Cat feeling the lack of aether in his very spirit.
Worse, the Void Flyer they stole needs a type of fuel that their sailing aether-ships never required. Their next step must be to reach the worldlet that their enemy stockpiled fuel on. But this vast expanse of sweeping ruins is haunted by worse things than the invulnerable spirits made of hunger and energy that attack them at every turn.
Because once, the Blood King of the Gobvar ruled these halls. The old stones themselves share a mind... still loyal to a King that should be dead.
Patrons FAQ
In 2022, we ran a Kickstarter for the first book in the series. That's part of why we're running the Kickstarter for book two there as well.
If the Kickstarter funds, then Patreon supporters will receive an electronic copy of the book for no extra charge (i.e., it won't be factored into the subscription cost for the year under Patreon's new subscription requirements). Void Spheres will follow the same publishing schedule as Nine Sailed Star did:
Kickstarter funds
Illustrations and interior formatting are finalized
Books are sent to printer
Printer sends books to distributor (and signed copies to us)
After the distributor ships the print copies, we send the ebook copies to Kickstarter backers and Patreon supporters
After backers and patrons for unsigned copies receive their rewards, we schedule a regular release for the ebook and paperback
The main difference is that patrons get their copies a bit earlier in the cycle, and we get to add
If the Kickstarter doesn't fund, then we won't do the illustrations or the extras, and we'll schedule Void Spheres as a regular release. Void Spheres will then be released as a charged post on Patreon (or the equivalent under the new subscription).
