Here's more about the book:

A failed attempt on the Mage-Queen
An old friend from the gutter
An enemy that should be dead...

When a kidnapping attempt on the Mage-Queen of Mars is thwarted by luck, leaving thousands dead in its wake, Prince-Chancellor Damien Montgomery returns to field operations one more time. The evidence leads to one place: Tau Ceti.

In Tau Ceti, Mage-Commander Roslyn Chambers finds herself without a posting as her teaching tour ends. Before she can take any kind of vacation, an old friend from her pre-Navy days shows up claiming to have information about the attempt on the Queen.

Montgomery is the Mage-Queen's adoptive father and right hand man. Chambers is one of her few true friends. Neither will let the blood of innocents go unpunished.

Neither believes the traitors called Nemesis are dead - but finding them may cost more than either of them can pay!

(SPOILER ALERT) As per Glynn: it's not direct motor control - Orpheus in A Darker Magic was a heavy-handed version of the tech from before they perfected the mind control element. It required heavier electrical weaponry to disrupt. Orpheus Ultima in Nemesis of Mars is more (horrifically) elegant and effective, but it's also more vulnerable to lower-voltage electrical weapons. - Robin

Great book :) really enjoyed it, bit sad next one not until 2024, a long wait :(

How were the marines able to use stunguns on the people controlled by orpheus at the landing pad? I thought that both nix, smartdarts, sonics and stunguns were established not to work on orpheus back in A Darker Magic? otherwise couldn't the marines and guardia on sorpendidas just have used stunguns on the mob?

The novella is very much a side story as Glynn mentioned above, so it's not integral to the plot of Nemesis. -Robin

The novella will be coming out in the fall. Exact dates TBA! - Robin

when is the novella coming out? is it the next book or at the end of the year? wondering whether i should wait and read the novella first or not

David Shmilowitz

So 80 royal guards (the red suits) How long does it take to train one of them, the best of the best and all mages? 150 secret service, 2 full companies of royal marines, 950 crew members, 120 passengers of which how many were from high families looking to court the queen (15) and the royal yacht itself and all this is considered background and unimportant to the story line? When you write about the royal guard over the years they are such a big deal and then you kill 80 at once and they are immaterial plus they obviously didn't do their jobs. This really jerks my chain. I read the whole book but only keep thinking who is left guarding the royals. OF all the series you have written this one used to be the best.

From Glynn: I want to follow up on this message, because it created some confusion. At the end of Beyond the Eyes of Mars, Roslyn came back to Tau Ceti and took on a teaching position so that she could gain some more seniority before her next ship posting. She lost her ship, and they wanted to give her a promotion from there, but they also recognized that they needed to give her a break. So there's a three-year time skip, because aside from some family drama, nothing really happened to Roslyn in the interim. Nothing really interesting happened to Damien during that time, either. We pick up Nemesis of Mars as Damien is finding out that there was a kidnapping attempt on the Mage-Queen. The idea that someone could kidnap the Mage-Queen (and almost succeeded!) sets off a political firestorm that allows Prince Chancellor Damien Montgomery to come back to the field. That sets off the crisis that I wanted to write about in Nemesis of Mars. Once I wrote the book, I had the idea to come back to Kiera. When Robin mentioned the novella above, it's not because it was part of the plan. In all honesty, I had the idea and really just wanted to write a meet-cute adventure romance for my partner. As I mentioned to Carolyn below, Jack has been really excited about the novella, and has been talking to the team about it. Since I have written it, I am going to have it edited and will publish it later this year. So when you asked about the assassination attempt, Robin wanted to let you know about the novella that the team has been so excited about. We do get to explore how Kiera and her boyfriend met, but it was pretty explicit in previous books that Kiera was looking for one!

Hi Carolyn - I wasn't actually planning to write the events that occurred offscreen. It wasn't something that happened to the viewpoint characters, and was a background event that set up the events of Nemesis of Mars. When it comes down to it, the exact details of what happened weren't important in Nemesis. I later came back to the events, honestly, because I wanted to write a meet-cute for my wife! It was a present for them, and because I have it written, I had it edited and I've put it in the release schedule for later this year. The team that you've been hearing from is really excited about the novella because Jack hasn't stopped gushing about it since reading the first draft in December.

Amazon is moving away from mobi and to epub - last time I sent a mobi file I got a message that send to kindle wouldn’t work much longer for those.

The audiobooks aren't published by us and instead through Podium Audio. So we're not able to offer early editions of the audiobooks. - Robin

I thought I missed a book from the beginning of this one then when I got to the end I see you have not written it yet. Why would I want to read that novella when I know how many are killed. Any why would the best of the best in each service allow it to happen? And since the best are all now dead who is left? I mean really? So disappointed in your decission to write them in this order........

Carolyn Kuzdas

Wish there was a way for Patreon supports to get the audiobook early too.

Glad you got it sorted! - Robin

The audiobook is available for preorder now and will be released along with the ebook. Unless otherwise stated, the audiobook and the book itself will always release simultaneously! - Robin https://www.audible.ca/pd/Nemesis-of-Mars-Audiobook/B0BRBSHBPX

Awesome! When will the audiobook be available for purchase?

Lauren

I just got the book file, but it gave me an epub file, unlike all the times in the past when i got a mobi file. for whatever reason, my pc kindle isn't reading the book properly EDIT: just found it, bookfunnel moved the mobi file option to the legacy reader tab instead of the basic kindle for pc reader for some reason. now to read.

David Shmilowitz

From Robin: That story will appear as a novella later this year!

Glynn Stewart

Okay I have to be missing something. When last we left our intrepid heroes at the end of Beyond the eyes of Mars, Rosalyn was returning to Tau Ceti with the recovered Prometheous interfaces. This book starts three years later after an assassination attempt on the Mage-Queen who has a new boy friend. I feel like I missed a book in there, but I don't see anything on amazon. What did I miss?

Joseph W Johns

Thanks!
