Thanks, Glynn - I thoroughly enjoyed this one, as I do with all the Starship's Mage series. One point which I hope may help - though I suppose it's probably a bit too close to your main publication date, even if you did want to change something. (Spoiler alert for anyone who hasn't read the whole book yet...) At the end of the book, you gave Roslyn the RMMC rank of Mage-Major; but in chapter 42 of Mountain of Mars, when you first mentioned Duke of Magnificence's marine CO, you said that the RMMC don't have the regular rank of Major - it's just used as a courtesy promotion for RMMC Mage-Captains aboard ship, to avoid any confusion with the ship's captain. If you remembered this, and gave Roslyn that rank deliberately, then that's obviously fine; if not... Incidentally, Mage-Major felt, to me, a step down from Mage-Commander, rather than equivalent rank, probably because, in present-day NATO ranks, I believe major is O3, whereas full commander is O4. Of course, I'm less clear on your RMMC ranks, even if your RMN ones seem to mirror NATO; I'm not sure what the lack of major would do to the relative seniority of the other ranks. I don't have a neat solution to the above, but I thought I'd bring it to your attention. BTW, on another note, I do hope you plan on writing more in the Duchy of Terra universe: I love the way you've brought the various alien species, and alien individuals, to life in that, and I'd love to hear more "myth vs fact" about the precursors - even if the "facts" come from their ancient enemies. If my memory serves, you alluded to such conversations going on at the end of the last book, but kept them "off-screen". Anyway, thanks again for all your fabulous work!
