Comic Time! The making of things...

Ohhh Patrons, shektchbooks are such a magical thing. When I teach any workshop, I love seeing people go from that fear and trepidation around making things to that absolute delight in having done something with your own hands.

When we are young, we make things for our own joy and entertainment. We have no sense of whether we have made a “good” or “bad” drawing. This remarkable space is what makes kids so utterly creatively fearless. I build so much of my work, and especially these workshops, around getting us back to that place. When people are brave enough to make something and then share it, the absolute delight we all take in the thing that’s been made is a magical thing to see. People are SO happy to see the thing you made. There is an energy around a drawing that has nothing to do with skill level or realism. That energy has nothing to do with your drawing being “good” or “bad”. It is happy just to exist.

Speaking of which, I am so happy that YOU all exist you wonderful people. This little platform is such a perfect space to share thes longer, ramble comics about all the concepts rolling around in my head. Thank you for making this such a spectacular space. You are all a fresh new sketchbook and a pack of pens on a day when I have nothing to do but draw.
