New Light Update, March 2025: The Dark Below
Added 2025-03-08 20:28:09 +0000 UTCWith the slaying of Malgohr the Huntsman, our version of The Dark Below DLC storyline has begun! We’re starting off in a very similar place to where the video game’s DLC started: Eris Morn has returned to the Tower, and she’s here to help us stop Crota from being reborn in the material plane. But like any good TTRPG campaign, what our players choose to do can drastically change what happens next.
Keep an eye on our Discord roleplay channels for a scene featuring Eris Morn as the official kickoff for this storyline. We’ve also added new bounties to the Sever Event Guide for fireteams to attempt.
Weapon Lore Update
Going into The Dark Below DLC storyline, there’s some weapon lore rules we need to clarify. These changes are reflected in the New Light Setting Guide (previously called the Lorebook; you'll see why we changed it soon).
Weapons that can deal darkness damage are banned from being owned or used. This is considered to be a serious offense and may result in strict disciplinary action. New Lights might be able to claim naïveté to get off with a warning.
Banned weapons are to be confiscated by Praxic or Vanguard officers on sight. Tower scanners will be able to detect weapons capable of dealing darkness damage, if not the Awoken and sunsingers loitering around everywhere.
Hive weapons as a whole cannot be stored in Ghost memory; they're semi-organic magical constructs.
You only get 1 mag of shots with recovered Hive weapons. Without knowing the proper spell, you can’t enact the magic required to reload them.
Because these rules are being instated after PCs have potentially picked up these weapons, if any PC who currently possesses a Hive weapon or a banned weapon wants to retcon that, just let us know by the end of March.
Players Writing Lorebooks
Lorebooks are defined as short stories two or more players work together to write, featuring their PCs. We (GMs) have written a handful of lorebooks with players already, but now we’re allowing players to write them with each other, too. This way, instead of going back and forth in an RP thread, you can work together to write a short story and post it all in one go when it’s done.
Lorebook Rules
You must work with at least one other player to write a lorebook, and the lorebook must feature PCs from all players involved.
You must properly credit all collaborators and contributors to the lorebook. This includes crediting writers, but if you ask someone to proofread your work, you need to credit them, too.
You cannot use named NPCs in your lorebook. Using nameless/“set dressing” NPCs, like the cashier at a ramen shop, is fine.
The lorebook must still follow all the rules of an RP thread, including the same universe-compliance scrutiny from GMs. The only rule you don’t have to follow is the post limit: you can work on & post a lorebook even if you’re participating in another RP thread!
Your lorebook must be 10,000 words or less.
The lorebook’s story must take place within the month it’s posted. As an example, if you wanted to write a lorebook about the aftermath of a session that took place in March, you have to post your finished lorebook by the end of March.
Vault of Glass Update
Guardians have finally breached the door to the Vault of Glass, and the first fireteam to make their attempt has already scheduled their sessions. But that doesn’t mean you can’t make an attempt to clear the Vault! Multiple fireteams are welcome to enter. Here are the rules:
Each VoG attempt will take place over two 6-hour sessions. Your fireteam must schedule both sessions before your Vault of Glass attempt can be picked up by a GM. You will get a 30 minute break in each of your sessions, plus additional breaks as needed for bathroom/snacks/etc. However, you will be expected to complete the Vault of Glass (or die) within these two sessions.
You can use a 2E character sheet for your attempt. Must be the same class and archetype as your 1E character. You can use any of your 1E equipment on your 2E character sheet.
Though this takes place over two sessions, cumulatively, your attempt counts as a single session for the purpose of schedule signup limits.
Each fireteam going into the Vault will be overseen by a unique GM. It’s possible fireteams will be able to run into each other (or even complete encounters together!) in the Vault, but we don’t recommend banking on this.
You CAN use a Vanguard deployment to add a 5th fireteam member to your Vault attempt. This person must make it to both sessions—you won’t get a replacement team member if they can’t make it.
Other News
We’ve added a new column to the Census, “Current Location.” This is to keep track of where your Guardian is, in case they decide to end a session somewhere other than the Tower. At the start of each session, you’ll have to explain to your GM how you got to the session location. This might mean taking a City hawk, your own jumpship, or doing something else to get there. If you can’t get there you can’t play, so be careful where you place your Guardian!
