The Million Dollar Question

Okay, it's better to do this sooner than later. Should I change the channel name (into something that does not involve "cuck") or not? I'll keep this poll up for a week and the result will be decisive

Comments

I mean... I like the name but it’s not the most quintessential feature of your channel... I voted “No” but I think the ultimate choice is yours.

change it to something with rationality and skepticism in it, just to fuck with those searching for reaffirmation for their prejudice

It is not just you. I love your comment. You sum up my thoughts on the matter. I was the one who asked for the name change because I shared one his videos and now there rumor that I'm into cuckhold fetish. lol Yeah. I didn't care much about his name, since the channel was still new and direction of content was still open. Afterall, one of my favorite musical artists was originally called "star fucker" as a joke because how terrible it was. But the name stuck with the fans and they have go as "SF" in advertisements. Also, try imagine suggesting to a friend or co-worker they should listen to "star fucker" as an adult to another adult. Hard sell. Now, imagine that with this channel. Both literally requires me to explain the entire backstory. I guess it could be argued that it will attach more attention. The other patrons are surprisingly attached to it. I can totally see how cuck philosophy works as an interesting name. But I can also totally see cuck philosophy being all 100% sincere channel about cuckhold lifestyle vlog or something along those lines. Y'know, this is youtube afterall. I find channels with decent numbers about extreme niche or weird shit.

You're videos are some of the best there are. Hard to answer your question without knowing your plans for the channel. Do you want to appeal do a larger audience? Then seriously consider changing the name. Do you want to stay niche or be closer to the people who breath and fully inhale the Internet? Stay with the cuck maybe.

Anyone who voted to change the name are cucks

So this is a really close call and the commenters here have framed the issue pretty well. I'll just echo most of them: the name draws attention to your channel, but makes it a bit difficult to recommend to some friends. However, I'm sure you've noticed that ideas and art attract a lot of discussion if the object is decisive and can be interpreted in different ways. So maybe it's better that your name is decisive in a 'no press is bad press' sort of way? Either way, your videos are incredible - I appreciate you!

I also do not feel strongly about the name and have sort of of grown to liking it somewhat. If Charles Fourier can publish "Hiérarchie du cocuage" then the channel can happily retain its jokey name. I can see the drawbacks so I am prepared to accept a vote for a name change as long as Cuck Philosophy is also one of the proposed names.

I like it. Leftists can't meme, as they say. So it's got personality over your typical humorless political channel. The name definitely drew me to investigate what your channel was about regardless.

While I have grown to like the channel name more over time, I still think it wouldn't be a bad idea to change. - Beyond an ironic use of the term, cuckoldry itself is not really relevant to the channel. It only serves as a joke, a reference to some alt-right slur. - Cuck is quite literally a buzzword and attaching your channel name to it might not be the best longterm strategy. - While I do understand the aspect of "reclaiming" the term, I don't think that would be a particularly useful goal. Referring to a comment above, I don't think "cuck" comes even remotely close to the historical baggage and cultural impact of a term like "slut". To me it's more comparable to something like "libtard" or "SJW", it's essentially meaningless. Reclaiming those terms would not help any disadvantaged/vulnerable groups in the real world, and the people originally using them would just move on to another insult. - While the name might possibly serve well as some kind of clickbait, I'm sure it turns off people too. YouTube had been recommending videos from your channel multiple times and I deliberately ignored them, genuinely thinking you were just another reactionary dudebro "DESTROYING SJWs with LOGIC". I still remember the thought in my mind when I did eventually, hesitantly click one was "alright, I'll give it a chance, the video title sounds like it could be interesting". Not the best first impression. That could just be me though, of course. Contrary to what the wall of text above might suggest, I don't feel particularly strongly about the name. If many people (or you yourself) like it, then by all means keep it - I'm here for the (excellent) content after all, not the name underneath it.

That's a shame, but I'll follow the poll results whichever way it goes. Is the name really that decisive with regards to your support?

Cuck Philosophy

If you change it, I will stop being a patron

I would stick with some ironic, but something less offensive. I keep on telling people to watch your Sam Harris video, but the name throws off anyone not versed in meme culture.

I think jokey names are perhaps better for video titles etc, but pun/ironic/whatever channel names tend to go stale after a while. Guess you could ask yourself would you mind being like two years or however many videos into this and then going "yeah oof maybe that's not so great"?

VYM

It's got its appeal, but it seems to be hindering recommendation of the channel
