A Critique of Stephen Hicks' "Explaining Postmodernism"

It's finally here. Working on this was really tiresome - not only is it one of the worst books I've ever read, it also ended up being my longest video yet. I hope you enjoy it enough to make up for my pain making it.

I might talk about that next time I do a Q&A!

Thank you so much for this video. Can you make a video about how you go about reviewing a book? How do you organize your ideas and responses?

Simpler name please

Peter Coffin references it a lot. He could be a useful resource. Thanks. Keep it up.

The strange thing is that I had never heard of metamodernism until I started talking about postmodernism on the channel and people brought it up. I still haven't read much about it, not sure where to start. The few things on it I've glanced at didn't seem very substantial

Very nice. Have you considered doing anything about Metamodernism? I'm doing some research on it and based on this video I'm thinking this article might be wrong on some things or my understanding is. Either way I'd love to see you take Metamodernism. http://ijll-net.com/journals/ijll/Vol_5_No_1_June_2017/5.pdf

You seemed genuinely pissed about his misrepresentation of Kant...

Lost my shit numerous times watching this video, but these criticisms need to be said! Keep up the good work

Yes, but it's also dangerous tool. The 'right' of youtube do similar videos. Some channels blandly lie, edit another's video to misrepresent them. Typically inciting their fanbase. Which creates "digital vigilance", a portion of the fanbase will attack this person by cyber bullying. Some times it leads to real life stalking and or creepy shit.

Excellent video. Honestly starting to see why so many people like the "rational sphere" on youtube (and elsewhere); there is something extremely cathartic about presenting arguments to pick them apart.
