Time for a new poll

What should the next video on the channel be? Here are the options:

1)  I would talk about The Emoji Movie as an example of what The Frankfurt School's Adorno called the culture industry - when culture becomes commodified, standardized, mass-produced and used to keep people in passivity) The Emoji Movie is a good example of this both because of the ubiquitous product placement and its plot. You won’t have to have seen The Emoji Movie to follow the video, of course. Although Adorno wrote about this decades ago, a lot of what he says is specifically applicable to today's entertainment.
2) Ever since I did a video on Jordan Peterson, people have been telling me to read this book - it’s the main source from which Peterson draws his criticism of postmodernism, and he has publicly recommended it. I wasn’t going to do a critique of this book at first, but then I saw that it’s worse than I thought it was. Criticizing this book is important not only because of its misrepresentations of postmodern philosophy, it misrepresents even modern philosophy. There have been a lot of baffling statements about Hume, Kant, Hegel I’ve seen from Jordan Peterson fans, and I was always confused by them until I found out they all come from this one book. This one would take a while because I'd have to read the entirety of the book first.
3) I'd talk about the philosophy of the 1st season of the TV show True Detective, which is philosophical pessimism, explicitly talked about by one of the show's main characters Rust Cohle. I'd talk about Thomas Ligotti's philosophical influence on Rust's character, but also about the philosophical influences of Ligotti himself, such as Zapffe and Cioran. I'd explain some philosophical themes mentioned in the show, such as the depreciation and denial of life, pessimism as a worldview and antinatalism. You wouldn't need to have watched the show to understand the video, but I imagine this would be of interest mostly to fans of the show.

Comments

I hope you have time at some point to do 3, at least season 1. Would love it

VYM

Well, unfortunately I have already wasted a good chunk of time actually reading through the entire book, and seeing as most people voted option 2, that will be the next video. I hope to do number 1 sometime soon after. 3 seems to be an unpopular option. True Detective doesn't tackle Cioran that much - I'd like to treat him outside of the TV show sometime, but his works don't lend themselves very well to the kind of video structure I go for, because of his very aphoristic and un-systematic writing style.

Cuck Philosophy

Hearing the drivel that often comes out of JP's mouth, I am unsure you should waste any time on 2 but would definitely look forward to either 1 or 3. My preference is on 3 as I am curious to hear your take on EM Cioran's philosophy.
