Mythic Magazine #50
Added 2025-02-01 00:15:22 +0000 UTC
Greetings Mythicists, and welcome to the BIG FIVE OH! Mythic Magazine has turned 50 (issues) today, so make sure your Player Characters all share some cake!
This issue has:
Deconstructing Prepared Adventures For Solo Play: Use prepared adventures to fuel solo adventures quickly and easily.
Mythic On The Move: When leaving home don't leave your solo adventures behind! Ideas and strategies for playing while traveling.
I loved Jorge's gnome character on the cover so much that he became the subject of the Big Example for the "Deconstructing" article. That's Gandle, and I suspect we may see him again sometime in the future because he's just too cute not to revisit!
Happy adventuring! :)
EDIT: The magazine file has been updated on 2/18/25 with a couple of minor changes: fixing a layout issue on page 17, and fixing incorrect table numbering on page 36.
Do you mean the one-pagers? Sure! I think just about any ruleset could get the one-page treatment.
I'll put that in as an article idea for the content poll. Whenever it wins, I'll ask people which rule they'd like to see converted.

Tana, is there any possibility that you make pocket versions of other Mythic mechanics (like the random location crafter, the creature crafter, etc)?

Yeah, sorry about that! lol I expected Patreon to give me a little "Let me explain" box next to the "Notify everyone of the update" checkbox, but it didn't. Mystery change :)

Appreciate the edit note at the end! Patreon sent out the post notice (without it), and I was very confused. π

Hi, maybe it has been already reported but on page 37 of the PDF the Actions table 1 has numbers going from 101 to 200 instead of from 1 to 100, the same table on page 31 is correct.

Hi JosΓ©, thank you for the questions and kind words :)
The new approach of rolling page numbers is meant to walk you through the source book at a more measured pace. The dice range is about equal to 1/4 of the book length. So, the idea is to increase the chances of hitting more varied parts of the book. There's also an assumption that adventure modules keep introductory content up front, and progress to deeper content later, so the dice ranges try to take that into consideration.
For rolling 1d10 and 1d10+PP on the List, that's to help keep pace with the likely growth of the List. Using a d20 right away gives a much higher chance of rolling an empty line early in the game. Graduating that to a 1d10+PP later pushes results to higher on the List later in the adventure. This is to help simulate that Elements encountered earlier will appear less frequently later, replaced by later Elements. This is meant to give the adventure a sense of progression and change.

Great, Tana! I love the concept of deconstruction. I'm using it with Over the Edge and feels more authentic to play it with this style of cut-up technique!
A few questions out of curiosity:
- What was the reasoning behind changing the approach of the original "sourcebooks" article? Instead of letting a d4+d100 randomly choose, now we roll and sum numbers to the pages, what's the advantage of this method?
- When a crisis occurs, why use a d10 and d10+PP instead of just rolling a d20? Do higher results in Adventure Elements represent progress or something else?
Loving the magazine as always!

Congrats Tana! I remember waiting for the adventure crafter to come out and I thought that was the be all, end all! Now here we are 50 issues of the magazine in, a second edition GME, a second edition red book on the way, and a solo play revolution. You deserve all the accolades! Iβve played with groups but I prefer solo honestly and I am beyond grateful for you and your ideas. You gave access to the hobby in new ways. Youβve opened doors for us and I hope you are proud! You should be!

Congrats, but WOW!!! Just look at where we're all at now. This might make it easier to understand how the Great Pyramids or Great Wall of China were constructed, although Mythic is more fun. :)
